Jersey Shore Hair Tutorial: Pauly D’s Blowout Hair 101

After the craze that developed for MTV’s Jersey Shore, a show that revolves around the daily lives of a group of guidos and guidettes, a lot of people want to know about the tremendous maintenance processes that each of the cast members undergo. Pauly D., known for his perfect, rock-hard blowout hairstyle, gave Daily News a step-by-step how to tutorial on attaining his impeccable ‘do. It takes him about 25 minutes to perfect before he walks out the door any given day. Of course, the first important step to the Blowout hair tutorial is to have a blowout haircut. You also need to make sure you have the necessary hair products – and a lot of them! Follow these blowout hair tutorial steps for the hairstyle.

  1. Begin with clean, wet hair.
  2. Blow dry it for “high volume” for about 10 minutes (Bio Ionic Powerlight Pro Dryer)
  3. Finish up the drying process by carefully going around lifting the hair with a plastic styling brush for about 5 minutes.
  4. Use Joico’s Ice Spiker, water-resistant styling glue that promises a “cement finish”. Pauly D. insists Ice Spiker is the only hair product he will ever use for this hairstyle. “It’s like Elmer’s glue. It’s got the strongest hold. There’s nothing else on the market like it,” he says.
  5. Carefully apply the gel around the edges of the blowout hair in an upward direction. Rub in the white left behind by the product, but do not be overly concerned with getting rid of all the white.
  6. Finish the hairstyle by spraying Got2b’s Glued Spiking Freeze spray all around the sides and the top of the blowout hair.
  7. Finally, blow dry all around the blowout hairstyle while using your fingers to touch up the spikes.

Different Easy Hairstyles that Actually Look Good

It’s good to have different hairstyle options– whether it be for those frustrating bad hair days, for those days when you just don’t have enough time to do your full post-wash process, or simply because you want to try something different. Previously, I have made reference to the how-to’s for the side-braid hairstyle as well as a blog on how to get Snooki’s poof. Following are a few other easy hairstyle options that I think look great.

Put a bump in your ‘do.
Separate the crown section of your hair and tease it.
After teasing, spritz it with some hairspray (like the Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Harder Hairspray).
Then, pull both side sections back around the teased section and pin it into place.

Loose curls
Blow-dry your hair and make sure to untangle any knots.
Using a 1-inch curling iron (like the FHI HEAT Curling Iron), curl 2-inch sections of hair, one at a time, holding the barrel vertically 3 inches from the root.
Spritz some hairspray (TIGI Rockaholic Run Times Flexible Hairspray) on your hair after finishing with the curling iron.
After allowing it to set for a few minutes, run your fingers through for a more natural look.
Use a smoothing cream (like the TIGI Bed Head After-Party Smoothing Cream) to soften the ends.

Slightly tighter curls
After washing your hair, apply some leave-in conditioner (like the TIGI Curls Rock Leave-In Moisturizer) to damp hair.
Make braids all over your head, then go to sleep.
Undo the braids in the morning and separate them a bit with your fingers.

Eucalyptus: the Secret to Shinier, Healthier Hair

CC by Dmitry Skurnyagin

A new study in Japan suggests that eucalyptus may improve hair. About 67 Asian and Caucasian volunteers participated in the hair beauty study which required the volunteers to apply a lotion hair product containing 3 percent eucalyptus extract to one side of their scalp and a placebo lotion hair product to the other side of their scalp, twice a day for three months.

Researchers found that the new hair growth on the side of the scalp treated with the eucalyptus extract hair product showed more flexibility, spring and shine as compared to the side with the placebo lotion. Researchers at the Journal of Cosmetic Science believe that a hair treatment containing eucalyptus may successfully impact hair underneath the scalp, changing the protein structure of the new growth.

The TIGI Love Peace & the Planet Freak of Nature Volumizer & Thickener is one of the few hair products on the market that uses eucalyptus. Try it and let us know what you think. Visit TheBeautyPlace.com for other great quality hair and skincare products at great prices.

A Quick Fix for Hair Thinning and Bald Spots

Hair loss can be more traumatic than one might think. When you start to notice hair thinning and bald spots, you might feel self-conscious, unattractive or older. Some people experience the beginnings of hair loss before they reach their 20s. Women with hair thinning or bald spots are likely to feel embarrassed being that, in society, women are the ones with long, thicker hair. Still, men don’t take it lightly, either. Men often feel hair loss affects the way they are perceived by friends, family and colleagues. Furthermore, many people experiencing hair thinning may be embarrassed to even address the issue and go see a doctor in search of a solution to thicken hair.

Toppik Hair Building Fibers is the best hair loss concealer out there. It fills balding or hair thinning areas within seconds. It is not a spray or cream. It is a complex of tiny, microfiber hairs that are made of pure organic protein.  The natural hair products blend seamlessly with your hair and make it actually look like you have thicker hair. Not even someone standing two inches away would notice it. These natural hair products are made of the same organic Keratin as your own hair. The Toppik hair fibers are charged with static electricity and securely bonded, making the hair fibers stay in place all day and night. The hair fibers are resistant to strong winds, rain and perspiration; still, Toppik Hair Building Fibers easily wash out with shampoo.

You don’t even necessarily need a mirror when you apply Toppik Hair Building Fibers. Just gently shake it above the area of hair loss and thousands of color-matched hair fibers will intertwine with your hair. For the best results, use the Toppik Fiberhold Spray to increase the strength of the bond between Toppik hair fibers and your natural hair. Toppik Hair Building Fibers come in different shades to match your hair color:

  • White
  • Black
  • Blonde
  • Light Blonde
  • Auburn
  • Gray
  • Medium Brown
  • Dark Brown
  • Light Brown

The Benefits of using Exfoliating Skincare Products

CC by ? Brigitte...Meh ?

Most of us know that exfoliating is a good way to shed that top layer of dead skin and uncover that soft layer of beautiful skin underneath. However, there are several other benefits to exfoliating with skincare products. First off, exfoliating is not just for your facial skin. You can exfoliate your legs, lips, feet and scalp. Following are a few of the benefits of using exfoliating skincare products:

FACIAL SKIN EXFOLIATION
Fights signs of aging
With time, the skin’s natural ability to shed dead cells decreases, making dry skin and face wrinkles more obvious. Removing the dead skin reveals fresher, brighter and younger-looking skin. DDF Anti Aging Glycolic 6% Exfoliating Wash is a great face wash for facial skin exfoliation.

Reduces Dark Spots
When you get rid of that top layer of skin, you diminish any leftover scarring or discoloration from blemishes.

Evens Skin Texture
The beads in exfoliation skincare products polish the skin, leaving it softer and smoother.

Prevents pimples and blackheads
Allowing your pores to get clogged with dead skin and oil may result in pimples.

LIP EXFOLIATION
Prevent dry, flaky lips
If you allow dead skin to accumulate on your lips, they become dry and chapped and lipsticks may appear flaky.

CHEST EXFOLIATION
Reduce chest breakouts and dullness
The skin on your chest produces just as much oil as your face and back. Exfoliate the chest once a week to keep skin looking vibrant and to prevent breakouts as a result of trapped dead skin and oil in the pores.

SCALP EXFOLIATION
Promotes Circulation and Hair Growth
As it is, the scalp constantly sheds dead skin. Additionally, styling products lead to buildup. Exfoliating removes debris and dead skin as well as unclogging follicles. Nioxin Scalp Renew is a product made just for this purpose.

BACK EXFOLIATION
Prevent Back Acne
If not exfoliated, the back can get clogged with oil and dead skin. Murad Acne Body Wash is a good body scrub to use to maintain clear skin.

HAND EXFOLIATION
Exfoliate Hands and nails to prevent the build up of dead skin cells.

FEET EXFOLIATION
Remove dead white skin
If you do not usually wear socks, your feet may get dry and cracked, particularly in the heels.

Hair Styles for Middle Aged Women

CC by david_shankbone

The ideal hairstyles for middle-aged women have little to do with age, and more to do with the condition of her hair, her face shape or the kind of lifestyle she leads. Long hairstyles are not only reserved for young women. Learn how to wear your favorite hairstyles in an age-appropriate way.

Hair Type:
Brittle Betty:
If you have brittle hair, you will want a cut that minimizes the brittle appearance as well as style that does not require maintenance with several styling products.

Slightly thinning:
Choose a cut that adds body to your hair and use hair products that assist with hair thinning. Nioxin is a popular brand that has several different systems so that you may customize your hair care to your hair type.

Make sure that you choose a hairstyle that you have the time to maintain for it to look its best. For example, if you are an on-the-go woman who always has somewhere to be and someone to meet, an easy-to-maintain hairstyle would suit you best. On the other hand, if you’re the type who can always be found browsing the cosmetics aisle or getting your hair done, you can pull off a hairstyle that requires more attention.

Hairstyle Types:
If you know what style you want to wear but just want to know the best way to pull it off, below are a few popular hairstyles for middle aged women:

Long Hairstyles with Highlights
If you have your heart set on wearing your hair long and highlighted, you don’t have a problem. The trick to pulling off this look in an age-appropriate way is to maintain your highlights just one to two shades lighter than the base color.

Bob Hairstyles
Bobs are a great example of a classic look that never goes out of style. Another benefit of the bob hairstyle is that it doesn’t require much maintenance. All it needs is some simple blow-drying. You can choose to have a one-length bob or one that is shorter in the back.

Curly Hairstyles
Curly hairstyles immediately soften the face and can be worn short or long. The key to pulling off this style is to make sure that the curls are soft and not tight. You can get soft curls using products like one of the many TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock hair products.

Super Short Hairstyles
If you have naturally delicate features, you should be able to carry a pixie haircut just fine.  You can wear it slicked back with Paul Brown Stay Straight Smoothing Balm, messy, decorated with headbands and hair accessories or with a side part. Its not as limited as one might think.

Don’t feel like you are too old to wear your favorite hairstyles. Make them work for you.

Beauty Fact or Fiction

We are constantly hearing about different things we should avoid or seek out to assist in matters of health, beauty or emotional wellness. “Don’t pull your grey hairs out”; “Don’t sit Indian-style”; “Don’t go to sleep with your hair wet”. Some of these have a legit basis – some were invented for who-knows-what reason. The last thing we need on that list of beauty advice is warnings that have no truth to them.  Below are a few of the commonly known beauty advice statements about hair care and skincare– as well as a confirmation or rejection of their validity.

Statement: Sleeping on your back may prevent wrinkles.

True. According to The American Academy of Dermatology, sleeping in certain positions may result in “sleep lines,” which over time can become deep wrinkles.
