(Easy) Tricks for Creating Volume

CC by s-a-m

There really doesn’t need to be a whole hoopla to get some volume in your hair. It’s actually pretty simple. Choose the route you want to use: a styling product or a styling tool.

Using a styling product:
First, it would be helpful to wash your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner such as the Rusk Full Shampoo and Rusk Full Green Tea & Alfalfa Bodifying Conditioner After you have styled your hair, to add a bit of volume, just spray some hairspray such as the CHI Helmet Head Hair Spray on the roots in the front of your hair, right at the part. Also, mist your fingers with hairspray. Run your fingers along the hair from the front of the hairline to about an inch back into the hair part. Lift that section straight up, and then gently let it fall back down. Voila! Subtle volume 🙂

Using a styling tool:
The latest issue of Allure featured a section where they discussed how you should go about finding the right flat iron for your hair texture. For fine hair, Allure recommended the CHI Volumizer, which has curved plates that add some boost to your roots.

What’s so special about the FHI HEAT Platform SE Flat Iron?

As you probably know, there is an ever-evolving list of flat irons – each one claiming to be better than the one before it. There are a few flat iron brands, such as CHI and FHI, which we know and associate with high quality flat irons. FHI has taken a special interest in their FHI HEAT Platform SE (Special Edition). What’s so special about the FHI HEAT Platform SE? For starters, it uses FHI’s Nano Fuzeion Technology, in which negative ions float directly over the straightener plates, making the most of the ionic effect and resulting in glossier, healthier hair. The nano titanium oxide and nano silver technology help eliminate destructive bacteria. Use the FHI HEAT Platform SE to flip, straighten, curl or twist your hair. Below is a list of the flat iron’s features to help summarize what separates its from its competitors.

FHI HEAT Platform SE Special Features:

  • Especially quick heating time
  • Scratch-resistant plates
  • Easy Glide plates
  • Allows styling on damp or dry hair
  • Ceramic Plates
  • Heat is distributed evenly along plate surfaces
  • Adjustable temperature (from 140 degrees to 450 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Maximum far infrared heat (less damaging type of heat)
  • Seals in natural moisture and eliminates frizz
  • Protects Color: Seals in color molecules and helps color last up to 2 weeks longer
  • Tourmaline treated plates produce up to 20 times more negative ions than the closest flat iron competition. Negative ions allow the hair to absorb more water, thus improving the hair’s state

Luscious Man Curls

CC by burningkarma

In most cases, you don’t need to be a woman to know that Matthew McConaughey knows how to put himself together well. Aside from the man’s athletic build and style, he’s got a nice head of curly locks. First and foremost, a good cut in which the curls are condensed and controlled, is necessary for this sexy, masculine curly style. Remember that curly hair tends to be dry because the scalp’s natural oils take longer to travel the length of the spiral. Quench its thirst with products specifically formulated for curly hair like TIGI B for Men. TIGI B for Men is a line of men’s edgy hair products that concentrate on preserving a healthy scalp and removing product build-up. Check it out for the sake of your hair’s potential.

The Key to Wrinkle-Free Skin

CC by Mariano Luchini photographer

Around age 35, our body’s natural ability to produce collagen begins to dwindle. Collagen is a tough, rubbery protein that gives our skin structure. Without as much collagen, our skin thins and wrinkles. A good amount of collagen is essential to younger-looking skin. Sun, smoke and pollution are other contributing factors in the loss of collagen. The intake of certain foods (fish, white tea, berries, soy and dark green, orange, red and water-rich vegetables) boosts collagen. A combination of collagen and elastin keeps skin firm and flexible.

Some benefits of collagen include:
Less cellulite
Fewer stretch Marks

Topical skincare products such as the DDF Anti Aging Wrinkle Resist Pore Minimizer or Kinerase C8 Peptide Intensive Treatment can help maintain the skin’s strength and volume. Collagen skincare products can accelerate the healing of wounds as well as repair damaged collagen. Topical skincare collagen creams normally take about three to four weeks to show visible results; however, you must continue to use the skincare collagen cream to maintain the effects.

Detecting and Treating Rosacea Skin Redness

CC by vonSchnauzer

If you have never experienced the undesirable flushed-face-look in which the redness lingers way longer than you’d like, chances are, you’ve seen it happen to someone else. Facial rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory skin condition in which the skin becomes red and looks flushed. There are three stages of facial rosacea. Depending on the stage, the redness can come and go, or persist. If left untreated, the condition will worsen. Some facial Rosacea causes may include the sun, heat, stress, alcohol and certain types of food. Facial rosacea affects more adult women than men and research shows that those of English, German or Irish decent are more prone to facial rosacea. Some common signs of facial rosacea include:

A red, rounded nose
Spider-like blood vessels
Irritated eyes (appear bloodshot)

Three stages of facial rosacea:
Pre-Rosacea is the mildest form. The skin has a minor Rosacea redness that comes and goes. The Rosacea redness tends to be concentrated around the nose, cheeks and chin. Pre-rosacea is also accompanied by pimple-like bumps.  In pre-rosacea, once the Rosacea causes are gone, so is the redness.

Vascular Rosacea is Rosacea redness that persists.  In vascular rosacea the nose and cheeks may become swollen and enlarged blood vessels become much more noticeable. These symptoms will stick around even after the Rosacea causes are removed.

Inflammatory Rosacea is the most severe case of facial rosacea. In addition to constant Rosacea redness, inflammatory rosacea can bring pustule, red bumps and cysts.

Facial Rosacea Remedies:
Use a gentle Rosacea cleanser such as DDF Sensitive Skin Cleansing Gel, which is designed for sensitive skin.

Prep your skin with a Rosacea cream such as the Murad Correcting Moisturizer, which minimizes redness with a color-correcting tint.

Use a Rosacea cream treatment like DDF Sensitive Redness Relief that contains anti-inflammatory ingredients, reduces redness and corrects and protects skin. The Rosacea cream treatments can be applied day or night and is designed for an even skin tone.

Resolve Pregnancy’s Lingering Beauty Effects

CC by Emery Co Photo

Ahhh, the joys of pregnancy. It’s a beautiful time – which comes with some not-so-beautiful side effects. Pregnancy causes the body to go through major changes including weight gain, changes in breasts and the occurrence of stretch marks. Unfortunately, there are many changes that women don’t know to expect because they are not talked about. Many of these pregnancy side effects tend to reverse on their own after your hormones stabilize a few months following delivery. If they don’t disappear naturally, there are solutions to correct them.

Itchy skin
Dry, itchy skin is common during pregnancy due to the elevated estrogen levels and stretched skin. Areas most prone to dry, itchy skin during pregnancy include the stomach, legs, breasts, palms of your hands and the soles of your feet. Along with itching, some pregnant women will also experience red, pimple-like bumps known as pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP).
Solution: First, try not to scratch. Avoid hot baths; though they may feel good at the moment, they dry your skin even further. Moisturize with ointments or creams (StiVectin-SD Intensive Stretch Mark Cream or MD Skincare Hydra-Pure Firming Body Cream) as much as possible. Ointments and creams moisturize more effectively than lotions. If you still can’t find relief, ask your doctor about a topical anti-itch cream.

Hair loss
While you’re pregnant, your hair may get thicker and grow quickly because the increase in hormones prevents hair from shedding. Your hair normally resumes its normal growth pattern once your hormones balance out, which normally takes about three to six months. At this point, the hair that didn’t shed during pregnancy will probably fall out, making it seem as if you are losing large quantities of hair.
Solution: Try not to wear your hair in tight braids or ponytails, which will cause breakage. Make your diet rich in fruits, vegetables and protein, which are essential for healthy hair. You can also use hair growth-stimulating products, such as CHI Power Hair Loss kits or Nioxin hair products, to speed up the process.

Wash your Hair on the Go

Sometimes you may go longer than you would like between hair washes. Maybe its because your schedule gets extremely busy; maybe you need to wait to wash your hair when you know you have enough follow-up time for styling; or maybe you are trying to preserve your recently-done hair color. Dry shampoo is an alternative to a regular wash with hair shampoo and water. Dry shampoos usually come in the form of a spray or a powder; aerosol sprays are the easiest form to use. Just make sure not to spray it too close to your target to avoid leaving behind a sticky texture and to avoid unnecessarily long drying-time.

I’m not recommending that you give up washing your hair with water and regular hair shampoo or anything. Dry Shampoo is just convenient to have on those days when you have to make an unexpected stop after working out at the gym or you’re running late for a meeting and your hair is looking flat and oily. The TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo is a citrus-scented spray that is great for adding volume to your hair as it leaves behind a light hold. The TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo absorbs oil, odor and buildup of hair styling products.

Everyone has hair styling products that they swear by. A dry shampoo is an extremely convenient item that should be added to that list. The main benefits of dry shampoo are:

  • Less probability of dried, weak hair and faded color
  • Instant – It’s like washing and drying your hair in just seconds
  • On-the-Go – Ideal for quick touch-ups
  • Justin Bieber’s Hairstyling Process

Whether you like him or not, Justin Bieber is one of the hottest topics right now. He’s all over Twitter, search engines, YouTube, hosting Saturday Night Live and doing shows and interviews. Girls and women of all ages are swooning over this teenybopper. Justin Bieber’s hair seems to get a flood of attention of its own. For any of you who may have wondered what went into his hairstyling process, it’s your lucky day because I’m about to satisfy your curiosities.

    • After washing, Justin towel dries his hair
    • Using a hair dryer, he dries his hair while shaking it up with his free hand
    • Justin shakes his head side to side a few times while blow-drying to influence how his hairstyle sits
    • Of course, Justin still has that beautiful shine of youthful hair. Get that healthy-looking finish by using a hair cream like the American Crew Forming Creme to finish and set the style.
