Trend Alert: Modern French Twists

Modern French Twists are everywhere you look lately. If you saw the 2011 Golden Globes, you saw dozens of modern French twists. Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Eva Longoria and Carrie Underwood were just a few stars wearing the trendy up-do. Get in the know of how to create the sophisticated, elegant look.

– Start by spraying a finishing spray, such as the Bain de Terre Infinite Hold Firm Finishing Spray $8.99, on damp hair.
– Blow dry hair a bit, just to add body.
– Separate the top half of hair from the rest and apply TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost, $11.95, for extra lift at the crown.
– Blow-dry the top section.
– Add waves and texture to the top, blow-dried section using a large barreled curling iron like the CHI Turbo Digital Ceramic Spring Curling Iron 1 1/2″, $98.95.
– Pull back the bottom section of hair tightly and gather as if to make a low ponytail without securing it.
– Twist the ponytail upward, beginning at the nape of the neck.
– Insert pins in a crisscross pattern along the twist up to the top section of the hair.
– Brush out the curls on top section and tease at the root.
– Brush top section back and tuck under the French twist. Pin securely.
– Set the French twist with a strong hairspray like TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray, $14.95.
– To create a softer look, gently loosen strands of hair around the ears and hairline.

Umm…What is Scalp Acne and How Can I Get Rid of It?

CC by Hygiene Matters

If you have ever had an allergic reaction to a hair product, you may have gotten what looks like pimples on your scalp. Those pimples can be a mild form of scalp acne. Aside from an allergic reaction to a product, scalp acne can also be a result of a yeast infection, mites or a particular type of bacteria. These triggers cause the follicles on your scalp to become irritated and inflamed, therefore, forming pimples.

How To Get Rid of It:

Note: Make sure to stay away from heavy, oily products that can further clog the pores on your head.

Have you ever gotten scalp acne? Do you have any tricks you can share to get rid of it?

Clear Out Blackheads!

CC by jingdianmeinv1

A lot of people get blackheads. I dare to say that MOST people get blackheads. They appear almost anywhere on your body including your face, your back and your chest. The longer that blackheads remain in your skin, the more they expand your pores and eventually, after enough time being expanded, your pores remain enlarged. Get rid of blackheads before they make themselves a comfortable home – and no, I don’t mean by squeezing them, as tempting as that may be. The main difference between blackheads and other pimples is that black heads are open and pimples are covered with a layer of skin. Because blackheads are open, they are oxidized, which is what gives them their dark color. The following steps make up the process that will clear and prevent blackheads.

1: Cleanse
A cleanser with salicylic acid will help treat and prevent blackheads while acting like an antibacterial and an anti-inflammatory. I recommend DDF Acne Blemish Foaming Cleanser, $29.49.

2: Tone
An alcohol-free toner is best for clearing blackheads. I recommend Kinerase Hydrating Antioxidant Mist, $25.49.

3: Serum
Find a serum that contains Nyacinamide (vitamin B3) and Papain (papaya enzyme). Nyacinamide decreases oiliness while Papain exfoliates and helps clear pores of dead skin cells.

4: Moisturize
An oil-free moisturizer with Hyaluronic acid will deeply hydrate the skin. If the moisturizer has SPF, even better! I recommend Peter Thomas Roth Max All Day Moisture Defense Cream SPF 30, $33.59.

5: Scrub
Scrub your skin twice a week with a gentle, grainy scrub. Manual exfoliation is extremely important in the fight against blackheads. I recommend DDF Acne Scrub, $33.99.

6: Wear a Mask
Apply a mask containing Kaolin twice a week unclogs and closes pores and absorbs oils. I recommend Peter Thomas Roth Sulfur Cooling Masque, $31.99.
