5 WAYS TO WINTER PROOF YOUR HAIR!

CMsnowhair2textWinter is upon us and officially here! Winter brings dry, brittle, flat hair. YAY! It’s not really that exciting…. Luckily all you need is a small survival kit to ensure your hair remains gorgeous throughout the cold season. Here are some tips to make your hair winter proof.

1) Keep It Moisturized
One of the first things you will start to notice about your hair in the winter is that it may feel, and even look dry. During these cold month the moisture level in the air is very low, which will result in your hair lacking moisture. The best way to guarantee that your remains silky and hydrated is to switch to a shampoo and conditioner especially formulated for dry hair. This will replenish any moisture that has been lost as well as maintain the moisture levels in your hair.
2) Stay Dry!
Leaving the house with a wet head in the winter is a big no-no! Not only is it bad for your health but also the health of your hair. If your hair is holding onto water and the temperature is below freezing, the water in your hair can crystallize and begin to freeze which will make your hair more prone to breakage. So if there’s time, blow dry your hair!
3) Cover It Up
Between the cold, the wind and the snow, the wintery elements are no friend of hair. It’s necessary to shield your locks to keep them looking fresh. Whether it’s a hat, a hood or a scarf, there are options out there for everyone and every style.
4) Beat the Cling
By far the biggest problem we have with our hair at this time of year is the dreaded static cling. While keeping dryer sheets in your pocket is a quick fix in a pinch, there’s no solution like being prepared. Try a static spray which will instantly eliminate static with just a small spritz. Keep your eyes out for travel size products, which are perfect to throw in your purse or keep in your glove box.
5) Start at the Root
Having a dry, flaky scalp is a concern for many people throughout the year but this problem gets significantly worse during the dryer months. If you suffer from dry scalp, the only relief is to nourish and hydrate the foundation of your hair. Try a Shampoo that will hydrate, exfoliate and soothe your scalp.

How to Look Younger Instantly

Look younger instantly

Aging is inevitable but you can slow down the process by taking good care of your skin.

Less is best:

The more makeup you have on, the older you look. To look younger, try to keep things simple and on a “must have” basis.  Use lighter base formulas that will less likely settle into fine lines and wrinkles.

You can also try using a concealer to spot cover any blemishes rather than using a foundation all over your face. The more your skin comes through, the better. Keep eye makeup one or two medium to light ranged colors.  Too much liner can bring your eyes down and make them look tired.

Go for color:

Looking younger can be as simple as wearing soft, warm pinks on cheeks and lips and peachy pink eye shadows with a plum eyeliner. A little bit of color goes a long way and do wonders for perking up your complexion.

Lip service:

Use a soft, nude lip liner and line your lips going slightly outside your lip line and then feather in the entire lip. Next, put on your lipstick or gloss. Doing this will give you a longer wear on your lip color as well as prevent feathering and bleeding and help to make you lips appear fuller. The trick is to not go too far outside your lip line as well as not going too dark. Keep the color medium to light in either a pink, coral, or soft plum.

Try to stay away from matte finishes which will accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. Go for the glow with products that have a soft light particle, or radiance boosting properties. Try moisture rich foundations and lipsticks and cheek colors that have a little shimmer to them are wonderful for giving your skin a youthful glow.

Tutorial Tuesday – Use a Curling Wand

The use of curling wands can be tricky. Depending where you hold it, vertical or horizontal position or how tightly you wrap your hair around the barrel and so on can change the look and feel of your curls at the end. To end this battle with yourself, follow our tutorial to get easy curls perfect for any occasion!

You will need:

  1. Before you begin curling, make sure your hair is clean and dry.
  2. Prepare your hair by gently detangling it with a paddle brush or wide tooth comb.
  3. Horizontally part your hair starting at the temple and clip it out of place.
  4. Start with a vertical section of hair around an inch thick (the smaller the section the more curls you’ll have).
  5. Start wrapping your hair at the base of the barrel, and keeping a firm grip on your hair, wrap the entire section around the barrel without overlapping.
  6. Hold the tip of the section tightly around the barrel for a few seconds and release. The longer you keep your hair on the barrel the more defined your curls will be.

P.S. When you’re done with your whole head, don’t forget to run your fingers through your hair! This will give your curls a more natural look.

Spritz a shine mist to leave your hair smooth frizz-free.

Stay beautiful!

The Commandments of White Teeth

teethA brighter smile makes you look younger, fresher, prettier…the list goes on. Here are our experts’ top teeth-whitening rules.

BRUSH THE RIGHT WAY

Believe it or not, the way most people brush their teeth strips enamel, which can make teeth yellow over time.  Whether you use an electric or manual toothbrush, make sure it has a soft head. Hard brushes are like sandpaper on your enamel.  If you only spend a few seconds brushing your teeth, it’s time to step it up: The American Dental Association recommends brushing for two minutes at least twice a day— gently. Scrubbing teeth like a frying pan not only wears on your enamel, it’s bad for your gums

USE A WHITENING TOOTHPASTE

We love Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste, which uses a combination of both calcium peroxide and baking soda to dissolve stains gently while strengthening the enamel. After brushing with the paste plus Supersmile Professional Whitening Accelerator every day for a week, we noticed a difference.

CRACK OPEN A BOTTLE OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

The combination of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is tried and true for a reason: It works!  Mix together one part hydrogen peroxide and two parts baking soda, and brush. At less than $3 for each ingredient, it’s hard to imagine a better bargain whitener. Another option? Dip a washcloth in hydrogen peroxide and rub it all over your teeth. The peroxide lightens stains while the cloth helps to scrub them away.

AVOID FOODS AND DRINKS THAT STAIN

Basically, anything that can stain a white shirt—coffee, tea, red wine, cola—can also stain your teeth. The absolute worst is something that’s hot, darkly pigmented, and sticky. Whenever possible, choose the lighter option: iced cappuccino over espresso, champagne over red wine, grapefruit juice over cranberry juice. When you do indulge in the dark stuff, limit contact with your teeth: use a straw, rinse immediately, and pop some mini disposable brushes.

WEAR BLUE-BASED COLORS AND GLOSSES

As with most things, makeup helps. Choose blue-based lip colors—cherry red, wine, or berry shades. Skip pearly lipsticks, matte finishes, and beige, brown, or yellow undertones, which can accentuate discoloration.
