Replace M.D. Forte Products with VIVITE

M.D. Forte and VIVITÉ are skin care lines developed by Allergan, Inc. that aim to provide beautiful, healthy skin.

Out of the two, M.D. Forte is well known in the anti-aging skin care market because of the higher levels of glycolic acid. Containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), these products normalize the skin’s exfoliation process while moisturizing your skin.

With M.D. Forte’s loyal following, many will be shocked to know that line is being completely discontinued. Yet, there is already a line that is substituting M.D. Forte – VIVITÉ.

VIVITÉ was launched in 2007 and has since clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles with regular use. The anti-aging skin care line is formulated with GLX Technology, a blend of antioxidants and glycolic compounds that allow for deeper penetration into the skin.

Though TheBeautyPlace.com has carried VIVITÉ for years now, the online merchant store has a loyal following of M.D. Forte skin care customers. Over the past few months, the stock in M.D. Forte has been decreasing while the growth of VIVITÉ is exponential.

M.D. Forte has already discontinued some of their products including the Facial Cream II and II, Facial Cleanser II and II and the Advanced Hydrating Complex Cream.

Currently, TheBeautyPlace.com carries M.D. Forte Facial Lotion I and II, M.D. Skin Rejuvenation HYDRA-MASQUE and M.D. Forte Skin Rejuvenation Lotion I, II and III. Once the online store’s stock of these products is depleted, they will no longer be available on the site.

To better assist M.D Forte customers’ transition to VIVITÉ products, TheBeautyPlace.com has listed the products that are comparable and the glycolic compound of the VIVITÉ product.

Quick Beauty Tip – Defy Creamy Gravity

quicktip-transpowderTranslucent powders are made to set, blend and lock a product in.

It is necessary when using cream products. Creamy products like liquid foundations, liquid or cream concealers and cream blush can fade or be weighed down by gravity. This is the reason why makeup looks do not remain in their original glory throughout the day.

A translucent powder, or setting powder, will keep it in place making sure it lasts longer and the logic behind its creation.

By absorbing the oils that begin to creep up on the T-zone area, it allows makeup to stay put longer. Dusting it over your eyelids will reduce the oil ensuring that your eye makeup look lasts.

If you have not made it a part of your makeup routine, do so and see the difference it makes.

Stay beautiful!

Quick Beauty Tip – Curl With Heat

We have been raving about the ways to make your eyes seem open and brighter.

quicktip-lash-curler

The beauty industry has seen the invention of heated lash curlers. Just like flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers can help shape and style your hair, heated lash curlers will add the extra oomph needed for bright, open eyes.

Instead of purchasing a completely new device, do it on your own!

You will need a lash curler, blow dryer and your favorite mascara.

We love Tweezerman’s Lash Curler and Bio Ionic’s Whisper Light Dryer.

Instructions:

STEP 1: Blast your lash curler with the blow dryer at the highest setting for about 10 seconds.

STEP 2: Wait 20-30 seconds for it to cool down. You want the lash curler to be warm, not cold, not hot. Tap your curler with your finger every few seconds to check for the right temperature.

STEP 3: Close the curler, or pinch the curler, at the base of your lashes. Hold it and raise the curler while it’s pinched.

STEP 4: Add mascara and enjoy the look.

Tutorial Tuesday – Fix Broken Makeup

TT-fixbrokenmakeupMistakes happen when you’re rushing a work of art. The work of art in this scenario is you, the mistake is shattered makeup.

It becomes a tragedy whenever it is new makeup or your favorite one.

In the past, we have been guilty of throwing out broken compacts, eye shadows and blushes but now, we can save them, enjoy them and get our money’s worth!

You will need:

  • Alcohol –70% alcohol will work best for this tutorial but you can use rubbing alcohol as well
  • Makeup brush – eyeliner brush  or an eyebrow brush works great
  • Plastic wrap
  • Spatula
  • Dropper
  • Broken Makeup

Instructions:

Note: Steps 1 and 2 are optional but they have proven to have great results in terms of reshaping your makeup and making sure it looks uniform.

STEP 1: Wrap the broken makeup with the plastic wrap.

STEP 2: Use the spatula to break the makeup into smaller pieces as if you were turning it into a mineral powder.

STEP 3: Use the dropper to add alcohol. Don’t add too much or the makeup will take longer to dry. For bigger containers you will be using more than 8 full droppers.

STEP 4: Use the spatula to smooth over the wet makeup. This will bond the makeup together. It should be able to be reshaped. If you are having trouble, you may need to add more alcohol. (If you skipped steps 1 and 2, this step may be a little messier.)

STEP 5: Use the makeup brush to smooth the edges and clean it up.

STEP 6: Wait a few hours for it to dry and it’s as good as new.

There are concerns that alcohol may irritate your skin. The alcohol actually evaporates and should not change the composition of your makeup.

Common Eyeshadow Mistakes

eye mistakesIn our challenges to find the best look for us, the ideal lip stain for our skin tone, the right match in foundation or pressed powder we have come across do’s and don’ts. Here at TheBeautyPlace, we love the diversity that eyeshadow brings to makeup and beauty looks but we also want to avoid these common mistakes from occurring.

Too Much Shadow Everywhere. As with all other makeup, you don’t want to apply too much eyeshadow on your lids or too much below the line. If you must apply it below the eye, only dab it on the lower lash line. Any lower and you will look exhausted.

Matching. Avoid matching your eye color with your eye shadow. They make your eye color look flat as opposed to the main goal – making the iris shine.

Here’s a short color theory lesson to add to your bag of eyeshadow tricks:

Blue eyes go well with warmer shades. They are opposites – blue eyes are cooler thus your shadow colors should be warm shades. Golden browns, gold, champagne, pale orange – take your pick.

Brown eyes are neutral allowing for some more variety – bronze, peach, purple, navy, teal and greens. If you want to go for a brown shadow, opt for one with shimmer or gold in it to avoid a flat look.

Green eyes go well with sepia, rust, pinks and purples. Even browns with reddish undertones can work as well.

Hazel eyes are trickier. They have a wider range of tones – between green and brown to flecks of gold and gray. Play up the colors with gray, dusty pink, deep purples, yellow-brown and burgundy. Frame the eye

Harsh Lines. We will rarely use just one shadow. For the perfect smokey eyes we use more than one color. The third mistake to avoid is not blending the shadows with a shadow brush. That begs the question, what about the applicators that come with the shadows? The sponge applicators leave a lot of pigment on your lid that a brush allows you to gradually add.

No Contrast. Eye makeup is not complete without some contrast. Mascaras and eye liners frame your eye while the shadows are supposed to brighten and open up your eyes. You may not need both the liner and mascara depending on your look, but mascara is always a yes.

Are there any other eyeshadow mistakes you’ve seen or done? Let us know!

Quick Beauty Tip – Dark Circle Fix

quicktip-dark-circle

For the late nights that have been accumulating (we are looking at the pros – mothers and college/graduate students), we know that dark under-eye circles may seem almost permanent.

To go from tired, sunken eyes to bright eyes, concealer is always involved. Yet these concealers may not be on our side. If you cake it on, it bring the focus to your dark circles. Switch it out for a sheer illuminating concealer and then try these tips.

Tip 1: Curled Lashes

To get bright eyes, you need to have open eyes. Curled lashes allow that to happen and directs people to focus on the lashes instead of your dark under-eye circles. Add mascara to further enhance it. Want to go the extra mile? A neutral colored shadow (creamy shadows preferred) can brighten the eye area even more. A dab is more than enough.

Tip 2: Bright Matte Lip

Distract people from your eyes altogether by sporting a bright lip color. Pinks, oranges, reds – take your pick!

Have any fool-proof tricks you’d like to suggest? Let us know!

You will need:

  • Eyeliner
  • Blending Brush

Instructions:

STEP 1: Color a square or circle with your eyeliner on your hand. The goal is to get a good amount of product so that it will stick on the brush.

STEP 2: Swirl the blending brush in to get as much product as possible.

STEP 3: Apply the eyeliner (now on the brush), sweeping it from the inner corner to the outer corner.

STEP 4: Fill in the entire lid going back and forth with the brush. If you have to go back to your hand for more product, do so.

Finish with a few coats of mascara and you’re done!

P.S. Feel free to line the eye for added definition!

Quick Beauty Tip – Apple Cider Toner

Apple cider vinegar is more than just a cooking ingredient. The benefits it has ranges from growth hormone production to weight loss and even a mood enhancer – we couldn’t believe it either.

This gem also has benefits for your hair and skin by helping it maintain its natural pH levels.

quicktip-applecidervinegar

Toners are supposed to help improve the overall complexion of your skin. With the skin’s natural acidity, the apple cider vinegar can actually restore the pH balance. It also moisturizes skin and reduces signs of blemishes and red marks.

For a DIY Facial Toner you will need:

  • 1 Part Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Parts Water

Mix the two liquids together and dab or spray on the face.

Individuals with sensitive skin should dilute the solution with more water. This toner works best after cleansing.

Best of all – it is alcohol-free! This means that you will not be stripping your skin of natural oils needed.

These alcohol-free toners are TheBeautyPlace favorites:
