At the 2015 BET Award, Rihanna stood out for many reasons, one being her upholding the bad girl reputation and previewing a taste of her “B**** Better Have My Money” music video. Ri Ri won us over with her perfectly glowing, bronzed look and sleek ponytail.  Her look was subtle and classy and we have the breakdown on how to #GETTHELOOK!

Slicked Back Ponytail:

Straighten your hair with a flat iron for super, sleek hair. Brush straightened hair back and tie into a ponytail with elastic. Use a small section of hair to wrap around the elastic. Finish off with an oil treatment to give the sleek look and to tame frizz and flyaways. We suggest Bio Ionic’s Agave Healing Oil Treatment. With its non-greasy, lightweight formula, it is ideal for all hair types.

Glowing, Bronzed Makeup Look:

Rihanna’s glowing skin looks #FLAWLESS. The secret? Mix in a few drops of a liquid bronzer with your foundation. It’s suggested to use a sponge applicator to apply the mixture to your face. Allow it to dry and create a subtle contour with just the bronzer. Apply it to your hairline, hallows of cheeks, jawline and on both sides of the nose. Set the face with translucent finishing powder. Can’t locate a liquid bronzer? Try Youngblood’s Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint. It glides on smoothly for a dewy finish leaving you with a glowing look.  Our favorite translucent powder at the moment is Glo Minerals Protecting Powder SPF 30. With double functionality, it can be worn with or without foundation.

For the nude lips, trace and fill in lips with a nude lip liner. Pick one with a matte finish. Then use a slightly lighter shade of nude lipstick to dab on center of the lips and feather outward. This will help lips appear fuller.

Rihanna’s brows were perfect. To fill them in properly, try brushing eyebrow hairs down to see where you need to fill in with a brow pencil. After filling in the gaps, even out the product by brushing hair back into place. Set brows with a clear brow gel so that it lasts all night.

Sultry eyes. There’s no other way to describe hers! She used bronze eyeshadow on the lids and shaped it with a liquid eyeliner. After applying the eye shadow, trace the upper lash line. Draw a straight line across and create a wing at the outer corner to avoid an almond-shaped curve.

sunscreenAs the summer sun continues to heat things up, UVA and UVB protection should be a priority. As the leading cause in skin cancer, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, UVA/UVB rays are extremely harmful.

According to Skin Cancer Foundation, the sun protection factor, or SPF, indicates the length of time it takes for UV rays to redden skin. For example, a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will take 30 minutes longer to redden the skin. Sunscreens with SPF 15 protection screen 93% of the sun’s UVB rays; SPF 30 screens 97%; SPF 50 screens 98%.

The Environmental Working Group, a non-profit dedicated to protecting human health and the environment, identified some of the most harmful ingredients found in sunscreens in department store brands and drug store brands.

By sorting through the level of toxicity of FDA-approved ingredients commonly found in sunscreens, the EWG’s sunscreen guide noted Oxybenzone as one of the most toxic ingredients. With a skin penetration level of 1% to 9%, Oxybenzone interferes with the body’s hormone system.

The most important part of the guide? EWG’s approved brands that scored well in regards to chemical penetration from ingredients, skin allergies and other toxicity concerns.

Jan Marini, La Roche-Posay, Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare (formerly MD Skincare), NIA24 and Skinceuticals are all available on TheBeautyPlace.com at competitive prices.

Below are some of the best SPF picks that are EWG approved and TBP Editor approved:

Can you feel the heat? In sunny south Florida, summer is going strong. Your summer skin care routine should be low maintenance.

Check out these summer skin care faves:

1. Bliss Fabulous Makeup Mel Gel-to-Oil Cleanser is a one-step cleanser. Use a small amount so it dissolves to oil once you begin massaging it in. Beauty Tip: Twice or three times a week, use this cleanser and then your regular face wash to hydrate and soften skin.

2. Murad Pore Reform Balancing Moisturizer SPF 15 is lightweight and helps control oil production. Apply onto clean, dry skin.

3. For days where extra SPF protection is needed, apply La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral Tinted Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid after moisturizing. With its light tint, you may even be able to skip foundation altogether!

4. Use foundations that double as SPF protection. Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Foundations have SPF 20 for protection while leaving a flawless, natural finish. P.S. It also helps fight signs of aging!

5. New to TheBeautyPlace.com is Glo Minerals Protecting Powder with SPF 30. Instead of redoing your makeup for sunscreen protection, this translucent powder helps reapply SPF protection with a sheer color leaving a youthful glow.

6. Since we can’t walk around with a portable misting fan, thermal spring water mists will have to do. We are loving Avene’s Thermal Spring Water mist.

facebookcover_allaboardWho says a spa can’t happen in the air?

Flying can be stressful, long and restless. It also isn’t an optimal environment for healthy skin.

  • No humidity
  • Recycled air
  • Fluctuating temperatures

The editors at TheBeautyPlace.com have found some of the ways to help your skin stay in optimal health, especially during the long haul flights. People won’t be able to tell you just landed!

Short Flight: 1 to 3 hours long

Early or late flight? Take this time to re-energize your eyes. When you’re settled in your seat, put on the Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask.  Let the hydrating magic begin and leave it on for about 15 minutes before removing. Put on a cloth eye mask to cover them up as you wait.

Use a serum. Dr. Gross’ Clinical Concentrate Radiance Booster will leave your smooth and radiant and is great to combine with makeup!

Medium Flight: 4 to 8 hours long

Cleanse your skin when you’re able to move around the cabin. Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Kit has the perfect travel sizes. The UltraCalming Cleanser doesn’t require water to washed off and is gentle on skin. Massage on and wipe away with cotton pads or tissue paper.

Apply a moisturizing mask for the remainder of the flight. Coming soon to TheBeautyPlace.com is Avene’s Soothing Moisture Mask. It’s translucent and will be offering your skin nutrients for the remainder of your flight.

Red Eye Flight

Apply an overnight sleeping mask. We love Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Anti-Aging Sleeping Mask. You can tissue it off or apply a thin layer to leave on and rinse off when you land. You’ll look like you never missed a beat!

Reverse Smokey EyeThis look doesn’t require dark liner. Instead , it’s a twist on the smokey eye we already love. We have already met the reverse smokey eye that switches it from the top lid to the bottom lid. The trend we spotted though inverts the smokey eye from the outer corners of the eye to the inner corners.

Create  a feline shape by drawing attention to the inner corners with the dark eyeshadow and the lighter shades applied on the outer corners.

We suggest it for a bold party look or night out!
