BAKED PERFECTION

Contouring then strobing, now baking?

The makeup world is continuously evolving and we are absolutely amazed at this revived trend.

Yes – revived. The drag queen community has been using the baking technique to help set heavy stage makeup and it works – makeup is always flawless.

Baking involves using your body heat to help set makeup resulting in a smooth, crease-less finish. Even Kim Kardashian-West’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic uses this technique!

The trick involves layering setting powder thickly and allowing it to “cook”  into your foundation and concealer. As shown in the photo from Heidi Hamoud’s YouTube tutorial, it helps highlight the covered areas – underneath eyes, forehead and chin. The result is a flawless finish with contoured cheeks.

So how do we begin?

1. Apply moisturizer, primer, and foundation. This method can be drying so the moisturizer is extremely important. You may also want to include an eye moisturizer to help hydrate the area as this method does focus on the eye area.

2. Apply concealer under the eyes. Dab on from the apples of your cheeks towards your temples. Keep going towards the hairline for some serious contour. Blend in with a damp makeup sponge.

3. Use translucent powder to set the base of the makeup.

4. To “bake” or “cook your makeup, use a wedge sponge and dampen it with a setting spray or facial mist. Then dip the sponge into the translucent powder used in Step 3 and apply it generously under eyes, chin, jawline and middle of forehead. Let it bake anywhere from 5-30 minutes. We suggest 10 minutes for great results but if you have time, go for all 30!

5. Dust off the powder with a fluffy brush. If you want to blend any rough edges, apply pressed powder on the brush and use that to dust off the translucent powder.

We love how this makeup look leaves our makeup look flawless.

HALLOWEEN MAKEUP WITHOUT THE BLEMISHES

ee3f7ad3834eb7fbd3e636bb987c441eIt’s that time of year again and while we absolutely LOVE these Halloween makeup looks, we also would love to avoid blemishes appearing after the hallow festivities are over.

Save your skin from blemishes the morning after a great night of tricks and treats with these tips.

If you already have blemishes, make sure to treat them with an acne spot treatment before applying any other products. This should help reduce the chances of Halloween makeup aggravating your skin. If we had to pick, Murad’s Acne Spot Fast Fix does wonders!

Keeping in mind that clogged pores is one of the main causes of breakouts, use non-comedogenic makeup and avoid any oil based makeup or paint. We also suggest avoiding any facial treatments  this week like skin peels, heavy exfoliants, or steam treatments. These tend to leave your pores open. Leave it for after Halloween.

We already swear by the rule of primer before concealer and foundation but in this case, let’s make it a priority. Primers help to seal pores before makeup application reducing the likelihood of pores becoming clogged or congested. Two of our current favorites are Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer and Dr. Brandt Pores No More Refiner.

And let’s emphasize this point – avoid any products not safe for skin. Glue being one of them. If you need to make sure something stays on, bring out the clear lip gloss.

The best way to ensure your killer Halloween makeup doesn’t lead to a catastrophic breakout? Remove all of it once your night ends. Many of our friends in the beauty business suggest removing first with a cold cream cleanser, then following up with a makeup remover, and cleansing your face. The morning after, exfoliate and use a mask to help remove any leftover residue. We would even suggest an additional step – using micellar water after using a makeup remover. Ideal for sensitive skin it won’t dry skin even if following with a facial cleanser.

SPOTTED: FAUX BOBS

We can thank Fendi’s runway show for inspiring this no-commitment do for the 2016 spring collection.

Looking fabulously undone, models’ hair was simply tucked under to create the illusion of bobs.

Stylist Sam McKnight gave the step-by-step to #GETTHELOOK

1. Use a hair wax and a spritz of texturizing spray to ensure hair strands are kept off the face. But be sure to leave a few wisps of hair for that undone feel.

2. Braid the ends of the hair – you want to approximate how short you want your bob.

3. Tuck in the braid under at the nape of the neck to pin in place with bobby pins.
