Frizzy hair at Marc Jacobs
Here in TheBeautyPlace.com offices, we refer to “frizz” as “the other ‘F’ word.” And, as our home-base is Miami, Florida, our hair succumbs to the not-so-positive effects of humid heat all too often.
So, we were slightly amused to hear that some of the world’s leading hairstylists (such as Orlando Pita and Guido) have taken on the mission of inviting women to embrace the fuzz by making it bigger and better than ever.
“Say what?!” We hear your cry? We KNOW! We reply. We couldn’t believe it either. But, having reviewed the runways we can tell you: it’s true.
And here, our essential five products for embracing–and rocking–the frizz.
- Thickening Lotion:Apply to damp hair to give body and texture. We recommend BioSilk Thickening Creme.
- Volumizing Mousse: Apply to damp hair to give hold. We like Big Sexy Root Pump Plus Volumizing Spray Mousse.
- Dry Shampoo or Texturizing Spray: Spray on dry hair until you get a chalky, powdery feeling and then tease. One of our faves is CHI Infra Texture Dual Action Hair Spray.
- Boar-and-Nylon Hairbrush: Adds volume and fluff when used for teasing. It’s also less damaging than a comb.
- Hairspray: Spritz your favorite hairspray (we like TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray) on a brush to help tame flyaways, or spray directly onto teased hair to help maintain height.

Blake Lively's Chic Sidebraid Is A Hot Look For This Holiday Season
We don’t know about you but we LOVE Blake Lively’s effortlessly chic messy sidebraid hairstyle. We are so enamored with the look, in fact, that we sought out our resident Beauty Place stylist and asked her “How do we get the look?!” Here, her advice on how to achieve the of-the-moment hairstyle yourself.
1. You want to build up texture by prepping hair with a texturizing spray, such as CHI Infra Dual Texture Hairspray.
2. Then you want to create extra body and bounce by drying your hair with a diffuser. We like the CHI Rocket Professional Hairdryer.
3. Use your fingers to rake your hair to one side and create two ponytails by fastening both the top and the bottom with elastic bands.
4. Pull out the top section and create a fishtail braid.
5. Next, add a festive clip to the base of the ponytail. (Lively wore a vintage Chanel brooch here.)
And voila! You are rocking one of the best hairstyles of the season.

A ponytail doesn’t have to be boring. Case in point? Eva Longoria’s cute ‘do (below) that she wore to November 13th’s Style Awards in LA. Effortlessly chic but way too pretty for the gym. Simply put? We in the Beauty Place’s office love it. Here, our advice on how to make the look your own.

Eva Longoria at Sunday night's 2011 Hollywood Style Awards.
1. A deep side part.
A side part with a low pony is practical because it blends in wisps and flyaways, and is stylish because it looks soft, sexy and ultra feminine.
2. A side-slung tail.
Skew your low pony slightly to the side and let the tail fall in front of one shoulder. That way, you see more hair from the front for a look that’s almost like wearing your hair down.
3. Loose waves.
If your hair’s straight, rev up the curling iron–we like CHI 2 in 1 Digital Curling & Flat Iron–and add a few waves to your ponytail. A bouncy, wavy pony just looks so much sexier when you’re wearing it low and to the side like this.

Every season has it’s look and there’s no doubt a hairstyle from the runway that you would like to make work for you. Here’s our top three favorite looks for Fall.

The loose braid, as seen at Lanvin
Where we saw it: Lanvin, Pucci
How to get it: This summer staple will still be going strong right into fall. To create the “easy, girly” braid apply a texturizer like the CHI Infra Dual Texture Hairspray to your wet hair for hold, then roughly blow the hair dry to maintain its texture. Add a center part, then braid your hair starting at the nape of the neck, leaving the front pieces free.

Low ponytail, as seen at Ralph Lauren
LOW PONYTAIL
Where we saw it: Ralph Lauren, Prada, Balmain
How to get it: The bouncy, cheerleader-esque ponytail is taking a hiatus in favor of lower, more understated styles. To create the sleek version at the Ralph Lauren show, pre-treat hair with a
thermal protection spray, and straighten hair to prep it with a
CHI flat iron. Next, pull the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Spray liberally with hairspray to keep flyaways in place.

The soft chignon, as seen at Chanel
SOFT CHIGNONS
Where we saw it: Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana
How to get it: The classic chignon has been around forever, but this season, it got a new twist with a sweep to the side. Start with dry hair and create a low side-part with a comb, then add a light misting of hair spray. Comb hair into a low side ponytail just below the ear. Tease the ends of the ponytail, braid the last two inches, and fasten it with an elastic. Next, roll everything up into a ball and lightly secure it with bobby pins.
