With Ultra Music Festival 2015 and Miami Music Week in sunny South Florida, we found the best hairstyles for music festivals for you to try!

Fishtail Pigtails

Dani-Witt-for-Elle-Brazil-December-6

Chic, easy and manageable this hairstyle will keep your hair out of your face so you can enjoy the music and good vibes.

Part your hair in the center and use a dry shampoo to add texture. Back-comb the sides and crown. Start two fishtail braids. Here you can add a twist and braid them only halfway of the pigtails or all the way down as in the picture. Tie them off with an elastic. Massage the fishtail braid to make it look tousled.

Goddess Crown

x13203

For all the long-haired beauties, this is one of our favorite styles. The braided crown allows you to accessorize your hair with flowers to match the feel-good festival feel. Section off two sections of hair – one section from the right and one from the left. Braid these two sections and then wrap them around the crown of your head. Pin the two braids in place.

Mini Braids

Mini braids are accessories in themselves. Braid small sections of hair and tie it with an invisible elastic.

You can never go wrong with beach waves or textured waves. Follow the instructions here to achieve this look.

Tutorial Tuesday – Tousled Fishtail Braid

TT-fishtailtousleWe can’t help it. We are in love with fishtail braids this summer!

We wanted to update our fishtail braid tutorial. This summer, a side fishtail braid that has a messy look matches almost any outfit and feel.

You will need:

  • 1 Pony Tail
  • 1 Plastic/Rubber Elastic

Instructions:

Step 1: Start off with textured hair. Next day hair works best but you can also apply a hair texturizer. For our assistant, we did a side part and began the braid in the direction of the part.

Step 2: Add the elastic to keep the hair in one place.

Step 3: Split the hair into two sections with hair hands.

Step 4: Grab hair from one side of section 1. To give the fishtail look, grab the hair from the back of section 1.

Step 5: Cross over the hair grabbed in Step 4 to section 2 of your hair.

Step 6 & 7: Repeat but this time you will grab hair from the second section of your hair and cross it over to the first.

Step 8: Continue this process alternating from section 1 to section 2 until you are done. Tie the end of the braid with a ponytail.

Step 9: Cut the elastic carefully with scissors. Make sure to not cut strands of your hair!

Step 10: To add to the tousled look, pull lightly on the fishtail braid from top to bottom.

How did your fishtail braid turn out? Let us know in the comment section below!

Stay beautiful!

Tutorial Tuesday – Fishtail Twist

TT-fishtailtwistThis summer, we are a fan of all things braided for hairstyles. This one in particular is great for any situation – summer party, summer wedding (can you tell we are loving this for summer?).

NOTE: We suggest using clear elastics for a discreet look.

Instructions:

Step 1: Blow dry and straighten your hair. For a beachy look, add curls and waves.

Step 2: Take two sections above each ear and twist them backward.

Step 3: Once the two sections meet, secure the two strands with an elastic.

Step 4: Create a fishtail braid with the hair from the two twisted sections. To make sure the braid stays put, use a thin hair elastic at the end. (If you need a fishtail braid tutorial, follow these instructions.) Remove the first elastic.

Step 5: Spritz a shine spray and hairspray so your style lasts all night.

Tutorial Tuesday: Lauren Conrad’s Side Braid

The former Laguna Beach star and current fashion designer, blogger and author Lauren Conrad continues to make waves in the beauty and fashion world.

TT-LaurenConrad-SideBraid

Her side braid is almost as famous as she is! Date night, shopping or coffee run, this ‘do’ is great for you!

You will need:

  • Hair elastic
  • Brush/Comb
  • Hairspray/Shine Mist

PREP: Decide on a part. This braid looks great with a deep side part but a center part works just as well. Comb/brush your hair after parting it to make sure it is tangle free.

STEP 1: Section off the front of your hair and separate it into three parts.

STEP 2: Braid backwards. This will be a lace braid, where you only add in hair from one side. As shown in the diagram, Bobby (from bobblyglam.com) adds hair to the section of hair farthest from the face.

STEP 3: Begin lowering the braid so that you create a curved shape.  When you curve it downward, you will continue with a three strand braid. Don’t add in anymore hair. Secure the ends with a hair elastic.

STEP 4: Comb through the rest of your hair and lightly mist a hairspray.

P.S. Before adding hairspray to your hair, feel free to use a curler to create easy curls in your hair after finishing the braid!

Stay beautiful!

Tutorial Tuesday – Cara Delevingne’s Braided Undercut

Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Aniston and Cara Delevingne – what do they all have in common? The braided undercut.

The undercut is a look that was very popular where hair on the side of your head is shaved off.

TT-Cara-Braided-Undercut

Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Cassie and many more went bold with the real undercut but for those more attached to their hair than others – the braided undercut is great for an alternative look.

Whether you’re going for a punk look, like Cara did in the 2013 MET Ball, this hairstyle is great for all outings. Beach day, date night, girls night out – you name it and you can use it.

We searched high and low for the best technique to recreate this hairstyle!

You will need:

  • Hair Spray
  • Bobby Pins
  • Hair Elastic
  • Hair Texturizer/Styling Pomade

Instructions:

Step 1: Use the arch of your eyebrow as a guide. You want to create a deep side part that aligns with your arch..

Step 2: Lightly spritz the side of your hair with the most hair with a water mist or texturizer. You can put it in a bun to help create waves and to keep it from interfering with your braid.

Step 3: The side with less hair is where the braided undercut will go. This section will have the braid begin from the temple to the crown and then straight down behind your ear. Apply a small amount of a styling pomade or paste to give it texture. This will allow your hair to be easier to work with.

Step 4: Make a horizontal french braid. Once you reach your ear, start angling it down. You want it to curve as in Cara Delevingne’s braid.

Step 5: When you reach the nape of your neck, tie the braided section with a hair elastic. For added security, use a bobby pin by sliding it in through the elastic and into your hair.

Step 6: Finish with a hair spray over the braided section. Let loose your bun, add a small amount of hair spray and scrunch with your hands.

P.S. Try to keep the braided undercut area smooth for  an even closer resemblance to a real undercut! It will add more edge to your look!

Rough texture makes this look versatile for anything so don’t fret if the side with the waves looks like you woke up from a nap.

Tutorial Tuesday – Messy Fishtail Braid Bun

Braids are a great way to get different hair bun styles. Today’s braided bun style is great for special occasions whether it be a wedding, family party or even a fancy date night.

You want your hair to have volume and texture. Try using a small amount of styling product like the Sexy Healthy Soy Paste to help you style and texturize.

TT-MessyFishtail-Bun

1. Add quick curls to your hair. You can use a curling wand or a straightening iron to make strands curly/wavy for the needed texture.

2. This particular bun is done by doing a fishtail braid to the side but you can also do the braid so that the bun will be in the middle.

3. Use a hair tie to keep the braid put. Begin teasing the braid by pulling on it lightly to make it loose and wide.

4. Twist it into a bun.

5. Use bobby pins to maintain it in place and voila!

Stay beautiful!

Get Her Look – Julianne Hough’s Top Knot

We see this look everywhere. When attending an elegant affair, but it is warm out or your dress calls for your hair to be pulled up from your shoulders and back from your face, try the top knot. We’ve seen this on celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Julianne Hough, Kelly Osbourne & more. Julliane Hough pairs this look with pinned back bangs. You can choose this option if you have bangs. If not, add body and texture to hair by adding in a braid.

Start off with a french braid right in the middle of your head only going halfway to the crown & secure with a rubber band.

Then flip your whole head forward and grab it to make a high ponytail.

Then flip your whole head forward and grab it to make a high ponytail. It should be where you stopped the braid.

Hold the base of the ponytail and wrap the rest of your hair around as if you are going to make a bun. Doesn’t have to be perfect but make it symmetrical.

There you have it! A very nice Top Knot with a twist!

How to Do an Upside Down French Braid with a Bun

Upside Down French Braid

If you’ve noticed, the braids being posted on Pinterest or on your favorite blogger’s website are not like the braids your mom used to do when you were little. The braid we are in love with, and want to share with you is called the “Brunch Braid” or the upside-down French braid with a bun. You can wear this braid anywhere you go, and it’s much more interesting than your go-to hairstyle – the ponytail. This amazing hairstyle keeps your hair tidy and makes you look polished! Here are the step-by-step instructions and what styling tools you will need! Enjoy!

Materials
1 strong pony holder
1 thin pony holder
1 sock
Scissors
Bobby Pins
Hairspray
Hairbrush

We are pretty sure you have all of these materials at home. Let’s get started!

Step 1: If you are on 2nd or 3rd day hair, great, if not, it’s ok. But it will be great because your hair has had time to spring back if you have styled it in anyway.

Step 2:Flip your head upside down and brush your hair.

Step 3:While upside down, grab a small chunk of hair from the nape of your neck and begin to French braid.

Step 4:Continue the French braid untill you’ve gone two-thirds of the way up your head. Fasten the braid with a thin pony holder.

Step 5:Flip right side up and brush through the top of your hair. Take a strong pony holder and and create a high pony.

Step 6:Take your sock and cut off the toe. Then roll the sock into itself until you have a donut. Then slide the donut over your pony.

Step 7:Pull your hair around the pony so you have the shape of a bun. Begin to fold the excess hair under the bottom of the bun and fasten with a pony holder.

Step 8:Pin bun into place.

Step 9:Spray flyaways with a hairspray like TIGI Rockaholic Fun Times Hairpsray. The hairspray gives awesome hold, yet your hair stays soft and not crunchy!

Step 10:….and there you have it!

How To Get The Look: Blake Lively’s Messy Sidebraid Hairstyle

Blake Lively’s Chic Sidebraid Is A Hot Look For This Holiday Season

We don’t know about you but we LOVE Blake Lively’s effortlessly chic messy sidebraid hairstyle.  We are so enamored with the look, in fact, that we sought out our resident Beauty Place stylist and asked her “How do we get the look?!”  Here, her advice on how to achieve the of-the-moment hairstyle yourself.

1.  You want to build up texture by prepping hair with a texturizing spray, such as CHI Infra Dual Texture Hairspray.

2.  Then you want to create extra body and bounce by drying your hair with a diffuser. We like the CHI Rocket Professional Hairdryer.

3.  Use your fingers to rake your hair to one side and create two ponytails by fastening both the top and the bottom with elastic bands.

4.  Pull out the top section and create a fishtail braid.

5.  Next, add a festive clip to the base of the ponytail. (Lively wore a vintage Chanel brooch here.)

And voila!  You are rocking one of the best hairstyles of the season.
