HOW TO AIR-DRY HAIR

mary kate ashley olsenIt has become clear that working with your hair’s natural texture, as opposed to molding it with heat, will give you perfectly tousled, imperfect hair. Save time and save your hair from damage with these tips. Who knew air-drying hair required so much planning!?

After washing your hair, towel drying hair properly is a must. It’s important to try and get most of the water out so it can be dry by the time you get to work, school, meeting, etc. Don’t be too rough with your hair to avoid knots. If needed, comb through your hair once at most.

Add some product to your hair as well to tame it some during the drying process. You can use a salt spray for some texture, hair oil if you have fine or straight hair but keep it minimal. Try teasing your hair around the crown and then leave it alone. Don’t play with your hair – it’ll ruin the finished product.

If you’re looking to get additional waves in your, tie it in a low bun while hair is air drying. Once your hair is dry and you let it loose, it will have textured waves that look effortless.

We want to know: Will you give this look a try? Or is blow drying the only way to go?

TEXTURIZE TUESDAY: BEACH WAVES

image

Ever notice how glam your hair tends to look after a day spent by the ocean? Even if you can’t make it to the beach anytime soon, you can still get perfectly tousled waves, AKA “beach hair“, regardless of your hair type, and with very little effort!

Most people have some sort of natural wave to their hair anyway, and using texturizing products is a great way to bring them out. Blow Pro Beach Blow Texturzing Mist captured the very essence of bohemian beach waves. This natural weightless mist is a carefully constructed blend of marine extracts, Dead Sea salts and milk proteins. Never sticky or stiff, Blow Pro Beach Blow Texturzing Mist adds fullness and volume by strengthening and thickening the hair’s cuticle

Using Beach Blow texturizing mist to create beach waves is pretty simple. Onto wet or damp hair, spray on the ends of your hand and scrunch up to your roots. Either let it air dry or use a diffuser, and you’re good to go! Personally, I find that this method gives me even better second-day beach hair than right after it dries – just apply a little After Blo Finishing Spray and Weather Girl Anti Frizz to rejuvenate your waves.

Marine extracts and Dead Sea salts thicken, texturize and enliven hair without drying it out. Moisture is locked in to give a natural seaside sheen. Nourishing milk proteins add flexibility and luminosity with a soft matte finish.

What sets Blow Pro apart from the rest? Developed, tested and proven by the experts at Blow, New York’s premier blow dry bar, Blow Pro hair care is formulated with an exclusive pure protein blend that is nourishing yet weightless – delivering all the protection you need and the lasting style you want. Blow Pro products are also free of harsh sulfates, parabens & sodium chloride and are 100% keratin treatment compliant.

5bb71e4b08833110c6c71df7e35ddfa0

Making an appearance on the runways from Alexander Wang to Carolina Herrera, slick hair is having more than a moment at New York Fashion Week. Take cue straight from the spring 2015 collections and rock that sleek, always chic ponytail. Whether parted down the middle or groomed into a deep side sweep, its perfect for day or night.

When it comes to mastering a highly-gloss, rigorously perfect ponytail, a comb is essential. Celebrity stylists recommend using a mousse starting at the roots to give the hair shape and weight, and go through it with a comb—not a brush—to guide the direction of your hair.

Tutorial Tuesday – Tousled Fishtail Braid

TT-fishtailtousleWe can’t help it. We are in love with fishtail braids this summer!

We wanted to update our fishtail braid tutorial. This summer, a side fishtail braid that has a messy look matches almost any outfit and feel.

You will need:

  • 1 Pony Tail
  • 1 Plastic/Rubber Elastic

Instructions:

Step 1: Start off with textured hair. Next day hair works best but you can also apply a hair texturizer. For our assistant, we did a side part and began the braid in the direction of the part.

Step 2: Add the elastic to keep the hair in one place.

Step 3: Split the hair into two sections with hair hands.

Step 4: Grab hair from one side of section 1. To give the fishtail look, grab the hair from the back of section 1.

Step 5: Cross over the hair grabbed in Step 4 to section 2 of your hair.

Step 6 & 7: Repeat but this time you will grab hair from the second section of your hair and cross it over to the first.

Step 8: Continue this process alternating from section 1 to section 2 until you are done. Tie the end of the braid with a ponytail.

Step 9: Cut the elastic carefully with scissors. Make sure to not cut strands of your hair!

Step 10: To add to the tousled look, pull lightly on the fishtail braid from top to bottom.

How did your fishtail braid turn out? Let us know in the comment section below!

Stay beautiful!

Tutorial Tuesday – Fishtail Twist

TT-fishtailtwistThis summer, we are a fan of all things braided for hairstyles. This one in particular is great for any situation – summer party, summer wedding (can you tell we are loving this for summer?).

NOTE: We suggest using clear elastics for a discreet look.

Instructions:

Step 1: Blow dry and straighten your hair. For a beachy look, add curls and waves.

Step 2: Take two sections above each ear and twist them backward.

Step 3: Once the two sections meet, secure the two strands with an elastic.

Step 4: Create a fishtail braid with the hair from the two twisted sections. To make sure the braid stays put, use a thin hair elastic at the end. (If you need a fishtail braid tutorial, follow these instructions.) Remove the first elastic.

Step 5: Spritz a shine spray and hairspray so your style lasts all night.

Tutorial Tuesday: Lauren Conrad’s Side Braid

The former Laguna Beach star and current fashion designer, blogger and author Lauren Conrad continues to make waves in the beauty and fashion world.

Her side braid is almost as famous as she is! Date night, shopping or coffee run, this ‘do’ is great for you!

You will need:

  • Hair elastic
  • Brush/Comb
  • Hairspray/Shine Mist

PREP: Decide on a part. This braid looks great with a deep side part but a center part works just as well. Comb/brush your hair after parting it to make sure it is tangle free.

STEP 1: Section off the front of your hair and separate it into three parts.

STEP 2: Braid backwards. This will be a lace braid, where you only add in hair from one side. As shown in the diagram, Bobby (from bobblyglam.com) adds hair to the section of hair farthest from the face.

STEP 3: Begin lowering the braid so that you create a curved shape.  When you curve it downward, you will continue with a three strand braid. Don’t add in anymore hair. Secure the ends with a hair elastic.

STEP 4: Comb through the rest of your hair and lightly mist a hairspray.

P.S. Before adding hairspray to your hair, feel free to use a curler to create easy curls in your hair after finishing the braid!

Stay beautiful!

Tutorial Tuesday – Boho Updo

Blake Lively, Nicole Richie, Cara Delevingne and many more celebrities rock the boho look in both wardrobe and hair.

Today’s tutorial tuesday will feature a boho hair updo that is quick and easy! All that is required is your headband and teasing brush.

TT-Boho-UpdoSTEP 1:  Use your teasing brush to gently tease the hair at the back of your head.

STEP 2: Put on the headband. It should look like a crown on your head.

STEP 3: Grab a small section of your hair near the front of your face and fold it over the headband. Pull it back through underneath the headband. Keep doing this to the same section until you get to the end of your hair strands. (You can add a bobby pin to secure your hair.)

STEP 4:  Repeat for all hair sections and make sure the sections are tucked in neatly around your headband.

All done!

Tutorial Tuesday – Cara Delevingne’s Braided Undercut

Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Aniston and Cara Delevingne – what do they all have in common? The braided undercut.

The undercut is a look that was very popular where hair on the side of your head is shaved off.

TT-Cara-Braided-Undercut

Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Cassie and many more went bold with the real undercut but for those more attached to their hair than others – the braided undercut is great for an alternative look.

Whether you’re going for a punk look, like Cara did in the 2013 MET Ball, this hairstyle is great for all outings. Beach day, date night, girls night out – you name it and you can use it.

We searched high and low for the best technique to recreate this hairstyle!

You will need:

  • Hair Spray
  • Bobby Pins
  • Hair Elastic
  • Hair Texturizer/Styling Pomade

Instructions:

Step 1: Use the arch of your eyebrow as a guide. You want to create a deep side part that aligns with your arch..

Step 2: Lightly spritz the side of your hair with the most hair with a water mist or texturizer. You can put it in a bun to help create waves and to keep it from interfering with your braid.

Step 3: The side with less hair is where the braided undercut will go. This section will have the braid begin from the temple to the crown and then straight down behind your ear. Apply a small amount of a styling pomade or paste to give it texture. This will allow your hair to be easier to work with.

Step 4: Make a horizontal french braid. Once you reach your ear, start angling it down. You want it to curve as in Cara Delevingne’s braid.

Step 5: When you reach the nape of your neck, tie the braided section with a hair elastic. For added security, use a bobby pin by sliding it in through the elastic and into your hair.

Step 6: Finish with a hair spray over the braided section. Let loose your bun, add a small amount of hair spray and scrunch with your hands.

P.S. Try to keep the braided undercut area smooth for  an even closer resemblance to a real undercut! It will add more edge to your look!

Rough texture makes this look versatile for anything so don’t fret if the side with the waves looks like you woke up from a nap.
