Double Duty: Multiple Uses for Your Beauty Products

These days, we spend the majority of our time finding ways to save time. The fact is that time-saving solutions are a hot commodity. What better way to make the most of your early mornings – and maybe catch a few extra zzz’s – by using beauty products that pull double duty? Here are several products that work overtime, offering multiple uses and shaving minutes off your daily, often hectic routine.

In a pinch, lipstick can double as blush – and a cream blush can also fill in for your lipstick, as needed. Then there are the genius products actually formulated to do both, like the Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink ($17.79). Producing a soft, girlish flush, the flattering hue adds a kiss of color to your pout and brightens up even the most tired complexions in an instant. The creamy, water-resistant, long-lasting formula is a dream.jane-iredale-lip-cheek-stain

You reach for your shaving cream mid-shower, only to discover there’s barely a drop left. We’ve all been there – and we’ve all felt that desperately uncomfortable itch that occurs when we substitute soap for shaving cream. A better solution? Grab your hair conditioner. It’s rich, thick, and moisturizing, and it provides just the right slip to glide your razor over. Give TIGI Bed Head Elasticate Conditioner ($9.99) a try for its hydrating prowess. It’s as good to your skin as it is to your hair!

Just as valuable as time are options. We love a product that doesn’t stop at just one – it goes above and beyond, offering a plethora of possibilities. The CHI Nano Digital Flat Iron ($99.98) is a genius example. Not only does it straighten locks to perfection, but it also serves as a curling iron. With a quick flick of your wrist, you can use the iron to create lush, voluminous curls or even tight ringlets.

Sometimes you just don’t have the time or motivation to address every single inch of your face. Simplify your routine with a product like Glo Minerals Shimmer Brick in Gleam ($20.99). A multipurpose product that serves as a blush and highlighter, it instantly brightens up a sallow complexion, adds color to cheeks and even contours your face to add dimension.glo-minerals-shimmer-brick

Who hasn’t overslept and taken a frantic shower – or worse, skipped that morning shower altogether – just to get to the office in time? If you can squeeze in a quick rinse, make use of Anthony Logistics’ Invigorating Rush Hair and Body Wash ($24.99). It’s designed to clean and condition your hair and your skin, so you’re left completely soft from head to toe – without the need to use a whole bunch of products to achieve the same effect.097735d6e58f15edb101e22edd367bd2

FULLER LIPS

Kylie Jenner’s lips have been a popular topic in the Instagram world and beauty world. Plastic surgery or not, there is a makeup trick that allows your lips to look fuller and unlike the rule in kindergarten where you’re supposed to color inside the lines, this one requires coloring outside the lines.

The Essentials:

  • Concealer
  • Lip liner
  • Lipstick
  • Gloss (if desired)

Begin by using the concealer. Apply it to the center of your lips to brighten the area. This helps to make it look fuller. Apply it to the edge of your lip line and blend the top edges up onto your skin.

Use a freshly sharpened lip liner (your color of choice) and apply it right on top of your natural lip line but leave the center of the bottom lip without liner. Exaggerate the liner slightly by feathering the color in a bit.

Blend it all together using the preferred lipstick color. For better blending, it’s suggested to use a lip brush.

If you would like to use lip gloss, add a light-colored gloss that has hints of shimmer to the center of of your top and bottom lips.

All done! We suggest picking mauve colors like the color Kylie Jenner is wearing in the picture or mauve-like nudes. These shades help give the appearance of fuller lips with this concealer and lip liner tip.

Quick Beauty Tip – From Lipstick to Lip Gloss!

quicktip-DIY-LipColor

Have you ever bought a lipstick color that you thought would suit you better as a lip gloss? Well you’re in luck! We have the solution for you.

What you will need is:

  1. Lipstick
  2. Toothpick
  3. Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
  4. Double Boiler (or 2 pots that fit into each other)
  5. Stove  (NOTE: If you are under age please have a parent help or supervise you 🙂 )
  6. Contact lens case or an empty gel liner case.

First, fill your double boiler with water in the bottom container or fill the bigger pot with some water.  Bring the water to a simmer. Then, get your lipstick and twist it until the whole thing shows. Use your toothpick to cut the lipstick into the other pan. Grab some Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly and put it in the same pot. The more you use, the sheerer it will be. Put the pot into the boiling water and watch it melt. When it has completely melted, pour out the contents into the contact lens case (great to travel with) or in the empty gel liner case. Put it in the freezer so it can cool off and voila! you have your new lip gloss 🙂

Quick Beauty Tip – DIY Lip & Body Scrub

quicktip-DIY-LipBodyScrub

With the ending months of winter and the incoming months of spring, you don’t want to be the girl who has a fabulous manicure accompanied by dry, cracked hands. Here in Florida, winter seems to be nonexistent but no matter where you are or what season it is, we all should take 5 minutes to make this scrub at home with stuff you probably already have.

Scrubs give you the opportunity to increase the circulation in your body, have glowing skin, sensuous lips, and are great exfoliants! A two-for-one recipe, this DIY works wonders for your entire body and pout!

Here’s how it’s made:

  1. Get 1/4 cup of coarse sugar. If you don’t have coarse sugar, you can use brown sugar or salt
  2. 1/2 lemon
  3. 2 Tablespoons of coconut oil
  4. 1/8 cup of Olive oil
  5. Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl until the coconut oil chunks have disappeared. Once it’s done,  it should be a creamy consistency.
  6. Scrub your hands with this for 2 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. Do not use soap! This allows the remaining oils to stay on your body and soak in.
  7. Pat dry with a towel

I love, love, love this scrub! It leaves my skin baby soft! But if you do not have time for that just use the Bliss Lemon + Sage body Scrub & the Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub. You’ll love the results!

How To Make Your Beauty Products Last Longer

Squeezing_last_dropHere at TheBeautyPlace.com, we know beauty products can be pricey so we want to share some tips on how to get the most out of your favorite makeup and skincare products.  After all, everyone loves to save a little money!

Tip #1 – Use moisturizer & primer on your face before applying makeup. Using either of these products underneath foundation will ensure long lasting coverage.  Added Benefit: it won’t dry out or crack your makeup.  You can also use an eyeshadow primer to keep eye makeup in place all day or night long.

Tip #2 – Moisturize Again! Similarly, moisturizer helps maintain a glowing tan longer whether it is from the sun or from a bottle.  The added moisture on the skin locks the bronze in place for a few extra days.

Tip #3 – Add olive oil to conditioners. When it comes to haircare, adding some olive oil to your daily conditioner, or deep conditioning hair masque can stretch the product out for a few more uses.

Tip #4 – Spray perfume in pulse spots.  Make that yummy spritz of perfume go the extra mile by spraying it in the correct spots.  The back of the knees, behind the ears, wrists and décolletage emanate heat from your skin and sends the scent into the air around you.

Tip #5 – Use top coat.  Splurging for a manicure during the holiday season can become more of a drag than a pleasure when it chips in a couple days. Applying a layer of clear top coat to nails every other day ensures a longer lasting manicure.
