The Weirdest Celebrity Skincare Hacks

Celebrities do not always use high-end products. In fact, sometimes they use DIY hacks that cost less than a Starbucks drink. And sometimes those hacks are clever…or just straight up bizarre. Here is a list of the weirdest skincare hacks out there in case you are curious—try them at your own risk.

Washing your face with olive oil

If you have ever wondered if cooking oil can be used as face wash, wonder no more. Chloë Grace Moretz says that washing her face with olive oil does wonders for her cystic acne. “I swear my skin is so much clearer because of it,” she told Allure. However, we would not recommend using it as everyone has different skin types, so what works for her might actually break you out. Instead, try Avene XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil , as it is formulated to use during skin’s flare-ups due to eczema and dermatitis.

Dunking your face in cold water

To set her makeup, supermodel Bella Hadid dunks her face in cold water for 10 seconds. This Korean beauty hack involves submerging your fully made-up face in a bowl of cold water to “seal it.” While it looks effective, that seems like a lot of work to do every day, so we recommend using Jane Iredale Balance Hydration Spray  as a way more effective alternative. This setting spray not only hydrates the skin, but also calms down acne-prone skin since it is formulated with green tea extract.

Exfoliating with cat litter

This one is probably the weirdest hack on this list, but Snooki likes to mix cat litter with water to get rid of dead skin cells. The self-proclaimed “cheapo” does not like to spend a lot of money on spa treatments so she found on Google that cat litter does the trick. However, Rebecca O’Sullivan, an esthetician at Chicago’s Sine Qua Non Salon, does not advice putting cat litter on the face because it is a known neurotoxin for humans and can tear the skin. Save yourself the trouble and opt for Dermalogica’s Age Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant  instead. This skin polisher sloughs off dead skin instantly without damaging your skin thanks to its advanced technology ingredients.

Applying hemorrhoid cream under your eyes

The secret to Kim Kardashian’s bright undereye is not an expensive eye cream, but actually a hemorrhoid cream! Her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, says he uses Preparation H. to reduce the appearance of wrinkles underneath her eyes. The ingredients in the cream really do help to tighten the skin temporarily by constricting the blood vessels, but if used too often can dry out the skin. Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Eye Cream  is a safer, and way more powerful product, as it contains a potent concentration of retinol complex that visibly tightens skin and dimishes signs of aging.

Moisturzing your lips with a nipple repair cream

Margot Robbie believes lip balm contains additives that dry out your lips, so instead she uses Bepanthen, a nipple repair cream for breastfeeding mothers. Some lip balms actually do contain dehydrating ingredients like phenol and menthol, but Avene’s Cold Cream Lip Balm does not. It is an ultra-hydrating lip balm formulated with vitamins E and F to help relieve chapped lips in an instant.

The Skincare Products Celebrities Swear By

It’s no secret that one of the perks of being a celebrity is receiving a ton of free products. From skin creams to masks, celebrities probably have a huge array of luxury items to choose from. But have you ever wondered what they actually use in their routine? We’ve discovered five celebrity favorites you can incorporate into your own skincare regimen that surprisingly won’t break the bank. Getting red-carpet skin is easier than you might think!

1.Cleanser

Everyone needs a good cleanser on hand, especially actresses who have makeup caked on their face all day long for filming. Lea Michele already knows this quite well, which is why she uses iS Clinical Cleansing Complex ($31.89). This gentle, yet clarifying cleanser works double duty as it gets rid of pore-clogging gunk with salicylic acid while also healing skin damage with three types of vitamins. Michele told InStyle she uses this cleanser because it “takes off everything without being too harsh.” It’s no wonder her skin is so Glee-fully clear.

2.Cleansing Brush

If you feel like you’re not getting a deep enough clean, it’s time to bring in a face brush. The Clarisonic Mia Fit Sonic cleansing device ($146.99) is a game-changer: It removes up to six times more makeup and debris than cleansing with your hands alone. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley said in an interview with Byrdie that one of her favorite things to use is the Clarisonic since “it’s great for really, really cleaning the skin of any makeup, impurities, or any dirt that has built up throughout the day.” The former Victoria Secret bombshell pairs the brush with the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex.

3.Face Mask

You don’t need a $200 face mask to give yourself the Hollywood treatment—and apparently neither does Khloé Kardashian. The reality star revealed to Us Weekly that she turned to Bliss Multi-’Face’-Eted All-In-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask ($30.99) once a week to detoxify her skin, claiming that “just seven minutes a week in this mask will do your face years of good.” Packed with skin-renewing ingredients such as glycolic acid and quartz, this mask definitely has us agreeing with her!

4.Serum

Once your skin is squeaky clean, it’s time to move on to a serum. SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic ($159.99) is Brooke Shields’ obsession and key to making her skin look as youthful as it did back in her Blue Lagoon days. “It’s packed with antioxidants and really brightens my skin, and since I began using it, I’ve noticed a difference in my fine lines,” she told Redbook. No surprise there—this award-winning serum contains 15% pure vitamin C and ferulic acid, which effectively protects the skin from skin damage and builds up collagen

5.Sunscreen

Last, but certainly not least, every star knows how important it is to defend against the aging effects of the sun. There’s one sunscreen that keeps popping up in our celebrity radar, and that’s Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 ($25.49). Ideal for acne-prone skin, this sunscreen reduces hyperpigmentation while relieving irritation and redness caused from blemishes. A few celebrities who use this SPF include Mindy Kaling, Kourtney Kardashian, and even Zac Efron. If nothing else convinces you to wear sunscreen…do it for the love of Efron. “Wear sunscreen every day, please. No amount of sun is safe, in my opinion,” he advised Refinery29. Can’t say no to that.

Celebrity Skincare Secrets: Day 3

Here at TheBeautyPlace.com we are committed to getting you the best beauty scoop, information and entertainment.  On Friday, we began our three-day series on Celebrity Skincare Secrets and today we conclude with two more important steps to great-looking skin.

DON’T SCRUB TOO HARD

‘It’s a myth that the more you scrub the more refreshed your skin will look — over-exfoliating will do more harm than good,’ cautions Marie Reynolds, head of international education for Eve Taylor Skincare.  We suggest using a gentle scrub, twice a week.  And one of our faves is the Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads.

BEST TIP: Don’t forget to include the neck and décolleté in your skin care routine as these will be on show, too. Keep the delicate skin in these areas well-moisturized and glowing.

FIGHT BREAKOUTS

‘Most people suffer from bad skin from time to time, says Una Brennan, beautician to actress, Sienna Miller and model, Laura Bailey. ‘If the breakout is a hardened painful swelling under the skin, don’t touch it, it will just make a mess. Instead, use a cold compress on it to bring the swelling down and send excess blood supply away from the area and apply a good clay mask.  We absolutely love the Murad Clarifying Mask.

BEST TIP: Drink an antioxidant-rich juice to brighten your skin. Put the following into a juicer: 2 apples, 1 stick celery, 1 carrot, a handful of spinach, 1in ginger, 1 lemon, handful sprouts (anything but alfalfa), 1in courgette, 1in cucumber, 1 beetroot or half a large beetroot.  Blend juice with an avocado and two spoonfuls of flax seed. Your skin and eyes will immediately be brighter.

Celebrity Skincare Secrets: Day 2

Here at TheBeautyPlace.com we are committed to getting you the best beauty scoop, information and entertainment.  On Friday, we began our three-day series on Celebrity Skincare Secrets and today we offer two more important steps to great-looking skin.

COOL DOWN

‘A good way to boost your skin’s circulation is to freeze some hydrating toner or floral water in an ice cube tray and pop one out to rub over the skin when you need an extra glow,’ advises Julia Hart, whose Shinso Natural Facelift has been described as the ultimate in skin rejuvenation. ‘Wrap muslin or cotton wool around the ice cube. The coldness will stimulate the circulation and reduce puffiness.’  Why not try the Peter Thomas Roth Conditioning Tonic.

Pssst: Shinso fans include Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston and Charlize Theron.

FEED YOUR FACE

‘Rescue parched skin with an at-home remedy mask,’ suggests Sarah Chapman, whose High Definition Facial is loved by Queen Rania of Jordan and actress Naomi Watts. ‘Use ingredients which contain nourishing vitamins, anti-oxidants, natural soothers and exfoliators.  We like the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Masque.

BEST TIP: DIY it!  Honey is a natural moisturizer and milk, natural yogurt and bananas are perfect for nourishing and soothing the skin.  Mix together to create a paste, gently rub over the skin and leave for 15 minutes to allow it to be absorbed.’
