Make your lipstick last longer with these 5 tips

Whether you’re wearing a nude shade or you’re braving a fuchsia color, there’s nothing more frustrating than leaving your house with a perfect pout and needing to adjust and reapply an hour later after two sips of coffee. The secret to setting your lipstick isn’t really a secret. It’s a combination of prep, application, and product choices. Check out these tips for a long-lasting lip.

Prepare your lips. Exfoliate them

The first rule of lipstick is to have smooth lips, and the best way to ensure a perfect canvas is to gently exfoliate lips to remove flaky, dry spots. You can employ the help of an unused toothbrush (seriously, don’t touch the one you use in your mouth) or a lip scrub. One of our favorite exfoliants is the PCA Skin Gentle Exfoliant ($21.99) This product exfoliates while cleansing for a soft and smooth complexion. With a creamy texture, it is formulated with hydrating ingredients.

Add some concealer to your lips!

Pat a little foundation or concealer over lips. Don’t entirely erase your mouth, but cancel out your lip’s natural pink so that your lip color’s true hue comes through. This also gives it a little something extra to adhere to. Jane Iredale Enlighten Concealer ($22.99) can be the perfect option!

Use the Reverse Lining

You may think to reach straight for the liner that matches your lipstick of choice, but using a technique known as the reverse lining is actually the better way to go. Using a flesh- or clear-hued lip liner, like bareMinerals Gen Nude Lip Liner ($14.99) this helps prolong wear and prevent feathering, or for post-lining to clean up the edges and finish off your nude lip look.

Go for a liquid formula

Liquid lipsticks are definitely the trend of the moment, but they’re also here to stay for good reason: Their staying power is unparalleled. And no liquid stays put longer than Glo Minerals Gloss ($12.99) which protect and nourish your lips while conditioning and coloring them.  Let your lips sparkle and shimmer with this spectacular gloss.

Put some powder on it!

Take a tissue and separate it into two halves. Place one sheet on your lips and dust a translucent powder like Dermablend Setting Powder ($22.99) over the lips, through the tissue. This is a trick you’ll see makeup artists doing backstage at fashion shows. This sets the color and helps set makeup and enhances wearability.

5 Ways to look Younger in less than 5 minutes

We all do what we can to make sure we don’t look older. Night creams, wrinkle-reducing serums, and under-eye creams aren’t the only ways to blur the lines of aging. For those of you who might have missed the anti-aging memo, check out this makeup tips that can make you look younger in less than 5 minutes!

Illuminate your faceHighlighter not only gives you that nice glow, it can be used strategically to lift and contour the face, making it look more youthful! Try a little highlighter like the Jane Iredale Eye Highlighter Pencil ($11.99) on the inner and outer corners of the eyes and along the brow bone to brighten up the eye area. You can also use the Glo Minerals ($12.99) highlighter to lift the cheeks. This will draw your cheeks upward.

Warm It Up!

Nude lipstick and matte bronzer look lifeless on skin that’s dull. Instead, a neutral rose color applied to the lips like the Tigi Cosmetics Decadent Lipstick “Bliss DL” ($12.99) really brightens it up. For the cheeks, try the Youngblood Pressed Mineral Blush – Plumberry ($15.99) this mineral based sleek blush formulated with mica and jojoba oil to deliver a smooth application and cheeky glow

Open those eyes!

As your skin loses elasticity, your eyelids begin to droop. To fake lifted eyes, go for a good mascara. This product is one of the easiest things you can apply to make your eyes look bigger—and therefore younger. We couldn’t think of a better option to add that volume to your eyes better than the bareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara – Intense Black ($17.99)

Go for a Liquid- Base Foundation

There is a time and a place for matte skin. However, powders can make your skin look dull and give you a cakey finish that accentuates lines and wrinkles. Go for a liquid-based foundation with a dewy finish, something like or similar to Youngblood Liquid Foundation ($26.99). The moisture and illuminating properties will minimize those pesky lines and make your skin look fresh and youthful. Plus, it is recommended to go for a yellowish foundation. Yellow warms up the skin, and the warmer your skin looks, the younger it looks!

Fill in your Brows

Because your brows thin out and droop at the ends as you get older, fill them out to look way younger! Lift your brows by applying a powder or brow pencil with a brush-through spoolie along the top line of the tail of your brows. Then, fill in any sparse areas lightly and brush through for a soft but defined look. We recommend the Glo Minerals Precision Brow Pencil ($12.99) since it works to fill in, sculpt, and shape your brows just how you like them.

Finish the eye by making a fine eyeliner with the Glo Minerals Precise Micro Eyeliner ($8.99) in black to give a subtle dramatic touch to your makeup.

Absolutely gorgeous, right? and very easy to copy. Now you’re all set to look as bright as Emma Stone!

Skincare 101: Everything You Need to Know

Choosing the right skincare products can be a tricky thing. Once you’ve settled on a regimen, you have to make sure you’re using your products in the right order, applying them at the right time of day, and treating your concerns effectively. It can be mind boggling simply navigating the skincare aisle at the drugstore! That’s why we’ve broken down the fine art of caring for your skin. Here’s everything you need to know.

Q: In what order should I use my skincare products?

It’s no good having a great collection of products if you aren’t applying them in the proper order. The first step is to remove all traces of dirt and debris with an effective cleanser formulated for your skin type. The goal is simply to start with a clean canvas. Make a commitment to exfoliate dry skin two to three times a week with a gentle scrub. Focus on those areas where clogged pores are most prominent, like your cheeks and nose.

Follow with a serum that’s packed with ingredients that target your skin’s unique needs. Formulas enriched with retinol’s and hyaluronic acids are designed to target aging, while nourishing oils lock in moisture for dry skin. Remember to pat your serum on—don’t rub. Next, pat eye cream on gently, taking care not to rub or tug the delicate skin in this area. Work your way from the outer corners of your eyes and down along the orbital bone. Then apply moisturizer. Your final step is sunscreen, which is essential if you’re headed outdoors.

Q: Can I use a face oil if I have oily skin?

It may sound counterintuitive, but face oils are remarkably effective even on oily skin. They key is not to go overboard in your usage, and to stick with nourishing ingredients that help balance your skin. We like Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil 100% Purified Squalene ($23.99) for its gentle, non-comedogenic formula. If you find that most oils feel too heavy, look for a product specifically formulated as lightweight. You might also want to add just a drop to your nighttime moisturizer instead of slicking it onto your skin full throttle. Nighttime is definitely an important qualifier, too: your skin is less oily at night, so it’s best to apply your face oil right before you hit the sack.

Q: What’s the difference between a hydrator and a moisturizer?

Thought the terms are often used interchangeably, hydration and moisturization are two different concepts. Hydrators are designed to increase your skin’s water content, while moisturizers lock in moisture to prevent that water content from being lost. This is why it’s advisable to apply moisturizer to slightly damp skin—it’s the water that keeps skin hydrated, while the moisturizer seals that hydration and keeps skin soft and supple. For extra dry skin, we love Skinmedia HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator ($329.89) to really ramp up your skin’s ability to combat fine lines while maintaining a smoother, healthier complexion.

Q: How long should I wait before applying sunscreen?

You’ve slathered sunscreen all over your face and body about 20 minutes before heading outside. You’re good to go—for now, at least. Pay attention to your sunscreen’s SPF rating. That number indicates how much time you can safely spend in the sun before your skin starts to show signs of damage (like pinkness or redness). As a general rule of thumb, it’s a good idea to reapply sunscreen after two hours. If you’re using a water-resistant formula, note that their efficacy times may differ. So if you’re swimming or surfing, be sure to reapply as often as the packaging instructs. One of our favorite head-to-toe formulas is Avene Mineral Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+ for Face and Body ($24.99).

Get the look: Adele Grammys 2017

Adele was one of the biggest stars from the Grammys 2017, not only because all the awards she won, or her beautiful speech to Beyonce when she won “Best Album of the Year”, but also because her flawless hair and makeup. To prepare your skin start by applying the bareMinerals Prime Time BB Primer-Cream Daily Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($20.99), providing skin-perfecting coverage, this primer-cream helps reduce the appearance of discolorations.

Then put a good base on your face with the Glo Minerals Protective Liquid Foundation Satin (25.99) to cover blemishes and other imperfections while providing protective antioxidant benefits.

Now, apply Jane Iredale Enlighten Concealer ($20.99) to the under eye area, T-Zone, and high planes of the face

Contour is a must! You can get the perfect effect with Tigi Cosmetics Creme Foundation – Dark ($18.99) to make your face look slimmer! Adele’s rosy cheeks and light pink lips perfectly complemented her olive green dress without distracting from her smoldering eye makeup and Youngblood Pressed Mineral Blush ($16.99) will be your perfect ally on this!

The eye’s makeup is very easy to recreate! To copy Adele’s sultry makeup start by lining your lids in Jane Iredale Liquid Eye Liner ($15.99) glide on with precision starting from the inner corner to create her signature cat eye before layering a swipe of bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 8.0 ($35.99). First, apply a cream color all over your lid and then contour the socket creating a shadow with the darker shade of the palette. Make sure to do the blending to create that effect of depth. Don’t forget to add mascara to give the perfect final touch and the Jane Iredale Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara ($23.99) helps lashes look thicker and longer naturally!

We can thank Fendi’s runway show for inspiring this no-commitment do for the 2016 spring collection.

Looking fabulously undone, models’ hair was simply tucked under to create the illusion of bobs.

Stylist Sam McKnight gave the step-by-step to #GETTHELOOK

1. Use a hair wax and a spritz of texturizing spray to ensure hair strands are kept off the face. But be sure to leave a few wisps of hair for that undone feel.

2. Braid the ends of the hair – you want to approximate how short you want your bob.

3. Tuck in the braid under at the nape of the neck to pin in place with bobby pins.

CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT: BET AWARDS – RIHANNA

At the 2015 BET Award, Rihanna stood out for many reasons, one being her upholding the bad girl reputation and previewing a taste of her “B**** Better Have My Money” music video. Ri Ri won us over with her perfectly glowing, bronzed look and sleek ponytail.  Her look was subtle and classy and we have the breakdown on how to #GETTHELOOK!

Slicked Back Ponytail:

Straighten your hair with a flat iron for super, sleek hair. Brush straightened hair back and tie into a ponytail with elastic. Use a small section of hair to wrap around the elastic. Finish off with an oil treatment to give the sleek look and to tame frizz and flyaways. We suggest Bio Ionic’s Agave Healing Oil Treatment. With its non-greasy, lightweight formula, it is ideal for all hair types.

Glowing, Bronzed Makeup Look:

Rihanna’s glowing skin looks #FLAWLESS. The secret? Mix in a few drops of a liquid bronzer with your foundation. It’s suggested to use a sponge applicator to apply the mixture to your face. Allow it to dry and create a subtle contour with just the bronzer. Apply it to your hairline, hallows of cheeks, jawline and on both sides of the nose. Set the face with translucent finishing powder. Can’t locate a liquid bronzer? Try Youngblood’s Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint. It glides on smoothly for a dewy finish leaving you with a glowing look.  Our favorite translucent powder at the moment is Glo Minerals Protecting Powder SPF 30. With double functionality, it can be worn with or without foundation.

For the nude lips, trace and fill in lips with a nude lip liner. Pick one with a matte finish. Then use a slightly lighter shade of nude lipstick to dab on center of the lips and feather outward. This will help lips appear fuller.

Rihanna’s brows were perfect. To fill them in properly, try brushing eyebrow hairs down to see where you need to fill in with a brow pencil. After filling in the gaps, even out the product by brushing hair back into place. Set brows with a clear brow gel so that it lasts all night.

Sultry eyes. There’s no other way to describe hers! She used bronze eyeshadow on the lids and shaped it with a liquid eyeliner. After applying the eye shadow, trace the upper lash line. Draw a straight line across and create a wing at the outer corner to avoid an almond-shaped curve.

Were there any other celebrity looks you wanted us to spotlight? #WeWantToKnow
