Christmas Light Nail Tutorial

Let your nails be your ultimate accessory this holiday season! Dress them up and get them in the holiday spirit with festive nails. The holidays don’t officially start until you’ve decked your tree to the nines, so it only makes sense that your nails follow suit. Get these super cute Christmas Light nails in just a few simple steps.

  •  On clean nails, apply two thin coats of white nail polish.
  • Once the polish has dried, apply one clear coat.
  • The string will adhere to this clear coat so make sure it’s doesn’t dry too fast drying or too thin of a coat.
  • Drape a  black string over the nail and let it loop as you see in the photo. Cut the string about 1/2 inch longer on each side of the nail and don’t trim it down yet.
  • Add a thin clear coat on top of the string to secure it in place.
  • Once that dries, trim the string down using cuticle nippers or small pointy scissors.
  • Next is the fun part– adding your lights. Pick any colors you want. We went for Green & Red, the ultimate Christmas colors!
  • Last,  apply a layer of clear top coat to nails to ensure a long lasting festive manicure.

Quick Beauty Tip – Flawless At Home Manicure

Put a layer of Vaseline around your cuticles  before painting your nails at home. This acts as a shield for your skin so if you color a bit outside the lines, the nail polish won’t adhere to skin and can be wiped right off! quicktip-vaseline-nails

Tutorial Tuesday – DIY French Manicure

Get the perfect French Manicure at home using the simplest tool – a rubber band! Use a classic white nail polish for your tips, or get creative with another color!

Follow the pictorial below and don’t forget to clean up the extra paint afterwards.

TT-french-rubber-bandP.S. For a better result, tie a knot on your rubber band so that it fits snugly on your finger. This will help avoid the rubber band sliding around while you paint. Don’t forget to top off with a clear coat!

Stay beautiful!

Tutorial Tuesday – DIY Gel Manicure

TT-DIY-Gel-Manicure

Gel manicures are a hands on girl’s best friend! They last far longer and keep your nails strong and less prone to breakage. The downside is that they can be costly, and your local salon may not have the color that you want in gel polish. Here is how to recreate a gel manicure in any color of nail polish you want!

Step 1: Apply two coats of Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat

Step 2: Apply one coat of the nail polish color you want to rock for the next couple weeks followed by another coat of Gelous.

Step 3: After allowing the coats from Step 1 & 2 to dry, apply another coat of the color polish & finish it off with top coat.

Your friends will be super “gelous”! (Was that too cheesy?)

Follow our previous tutorial tuesday to learn how to remove a gel manicure at home when you’re done!

Quick Beauty Tip – How To Avoid Bubbly Manicures

quicktip-prevent-polish-bubblesToday’s quick beauty tip is more like 5 in 1! Follow these steps to avoid dreaded bubbles in your manicure forever! 1. Swipe your nails clean with nail polish remover even if your nails aren’t painted. This will give you a clean canvas to work with. 2. If you moisturize, be sure to wipe the nails down before painting. This is great for your skin, but can leave residue that leads to bubbles on your nail. 3. Stop shaking the bottle before use. If you feel the need, take the bottle between the palms of your hands and swipe them back and forth. 4 & 5. Keep your coats thin and resist the urge to put nails in front of a fan or dryer. You want to ensure that the each layer of polish dries at the same time. If the top layer dries before the first, you may create bubbles.

Enjoy your perfect mani!

Quick Beauty Tip – Make Your Manicure Last Longer

skip-manicure-soakNext time you’re getting a manicure, skip the soak! Seems like a silly move because this part softens your cuticles, but when soaking in warm water, your nails expand. After being painted they gradually shrink back down to size and your manicure is more likely to chip! If you simply can’t go without the soaking step, opt for cold water instead!

Quick Beauty Tip – How To File Your Nails Properly

file-nails-correctEver wonder why your at home manicure isn’t as flawless as the one you get in a salon? A lot of it has to do with the way you file! File your nails in one direction to get a smoother shape. This will decrease the likelihood that your nails will crack and break.

Feed Your Nails

healthy-nailsThat’s right! I want you to literally feed your nails the nutrients they need to grow faster and stronger. The only thing worse than un-manicured hands are unattractive un-manicured hands! My mom always told me not to judge people by their nail beds, but I just can’t help it!

Follow these steps to keep your fingernails at their full potential:

1. What you eat: eating healthy foods that are rich in protein do good for more than just your body. They help your hair and nails grow stronger and prevent breakage. Try to add foods into your diet including avocados, salmon, and nuts.

2. Pamper them: it may make you feel like a diva, but you deserve it! Use gloves when washing dishes and cleaning up around the house. Cleaning supplies and dish soap break down your nails and make them weaker and prone to breaking. When you type away on any of the many keyboards you use, press with the pads of your fingers instead of the top of your nails. These tips will make your manicures last longer too!

3. Trim often: Some of us have trouble growing our nails so we let them grow in however they please and refuse to trim them. Those uneven edges end up snagging more often and you end up with broken nails that are shorter than they would have been if you just filed them down!

4. Moisturize: it is important to apply oils to your cuticles and nails. If you let them dry out, you’re even more prone to breakage. If you don’t have professional cuticle oil, you can always use some good old EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).

5. Apply a nail hardener: seems like a no brainer, but this clear, simple step is often skipped when manicuring. Lots of nail hardeners double as base or top coats, it is just a matter of preference, and guess what?! They actually work!
