Peter Thomas Roth Cult Classics Kit

The Plane

Ear plugs, tooth kit, eye mask: Yes, some airlines offer them, but surprisingly some don’t and it’s a bleeding nightmare if you’re stuck next to someone who insists on keeping their reading light and you want a kip. Better to be safe than sorry.

Try these:

Supersmile Whitening Toothpaste 4.2 oz

Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle 24k Gold Sheet Mask

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

SiO Eye & Smile Lift – 4 pads

Nasal spray, painkillers: The single best travelling trick I know is to use a chemist-bought nasal spray such as Vicks First Defence (£6) when flying. Using it when you first get on the plane will significantly reduce the threat of developing bugs from inhaling the air conditioning. If, though, you tend to get a headache from the air-con, bring painkillers. It’s a killer not to have them.

Moisturiser, pillow spray and muscle cream: Hydration will literally be sucked from your skin whilst on a flight so take a thick and nourishing cream such as Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream (£70) to lather on when your face feels a little dry. Admittedly, pillow spray is an added luxury but, a little lavender mist (Susanne Kaufmann pillow spray (£18) can really help to relax you during the flight and don’t forget the muscle cream. It’s not something many people think of but if you wake up with a stiff neck, it’ll be your saving grace. We love This Works In Transit Muscle Therapy (£18) – it really does tingle the right spots.

Facewash and deodorant: When you get the “breakfast wake-up” having been hunched in the same position for seven hours, there really is no better word than “rough” for how you’re probably feeling. The best quick-fix is a good facewash, a slick of deodorant (we love Aesop’s(£23)) and a scrub of the old nashers. Take Kiehl’s travel-sized Ultra Facial Wash (£7.50) for the best kind of in-flight wake-up. Its gel formula lathers the skin in a creamy foam, leaving it moisturised and refreshed.

Try these:

Dermalogica PreCleanse Wipes – 20 Count

PCA Skin Total Wash Face & Body Cleanser 1 oz

The hotel

Yes, the hotel will provide the shampoo, conditioner and shower-gel frills but there really are some key items missing on their stock order…

Sun cream: If you take only one item on holiday, let it be this. There is nothing more important when it comes to health and beauty than taking care in the sun and we highly recommend using no lower SPF than factor 30. You need to bring a body sun cream and a face SPF.

Try these:

Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF 30 Dry Sunscreen 0.62 oz

NIA24 Sun Damage 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 2.5 oz

Skinmedica Essential Defense Mineral Shield SPF 35 1.85 oz

After sun, body lotion, body oil: It may seem excessive to pack all three moisturising products, but if your suitcase allows, do it. Use the after sun straight after the beach. For evenings, choose a lovely scented, deeply moisturising butter and use an oil on your legs. You can reapply just before you go to bed to allow your body to absorb the maximum moisture it can overnight. This will help to prolong your tan and keep your skin nice and plump.

Try these:

Bliss Grapefruit + Aloe Body Butter 6.7 oz

John Masters Organics Blood Orange & Vanilla Body Milk 8 oz

Avene Body Oil 6.76 oz

Face mask: For many people, a holiday is a chance to go au-natural, allow the skin to breathe and avoid having to wear make-up for a couple of weeks, which we totally get. But, whether you fall into this camp or still maintain your normal beauty regime, the extra time you have whilst away is a great opportunity to pamper yourself and a face mask is the way to do so. Face masks such as SK-II’s legendary Facial Treatment Masks (£86 for a pack of 10) will help to restore moisture alongside your normal night cream and rejuvenate the skin after sun exposure.

Try these:

bareMinerals Dirty Detox Skin Glowing and Refining Mud Mask 2.04 oz

Bliss Multi Faceted Mask

Straightners or curlers and salt spray: Just because the hotel will have the hair cleaning products and a hairdryer, it doesn’t have the finishing touches to take your hair from day to night. Bring a set of stylers and a product such as a salt spray to get the ultimate beach waves, tousled look. We love Bosch’s mini straighteners-come-curlers (£23.99), perfect for squeezing in a suitcase and Davines’ Sea Mist (£15) for voluminous texture.

Try these:

Bio Ionic OnePass Iron 1.5″

TIGI Session Series Salt Spray 9.13oz

Make-up essentials

Concealer, tinted moisturiser, highlighter: Skin tends to clear up and look a whole lot healthier after being a little sun-kissed so leave all your thicker foundations and cover-ups at home. Take a concealer to use if your bags won’t budge and those dark spots and fine lines keep clinging. We love Hourglass’ Hidden Corrective Concealer (£23) for instant improvement. When it comes to a tinted moisturiser, select a shade one darker than what you normally wear if you tan. The best we have found is Estee Lauder’s Sheer Tint Release (£38), which adapts to your skintone, whatever it is. Lastly, the power of a good highlighter to enhance your holiday glow shouldn’t be underestimated. Try Nars’ Illuminator (£23) on your cheekbones, cupid’s arrow, brow bones and temples.

Try these:

bareMinerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

Eyebrow products: Don’t forget to fill those brows in, the sun will naturally make your hairs lighter. Benefit’s Brow Zings (£24.50) is a winner with its powder and wax options.

Try these:

Glo Minerals Brow Collection

Mascara: Take a waterproof mascara such as Clinique’s High Impact(£17.50). That way, you’ll look fresh in the water as well as out. Don’t underestimate the power of humidity and sweat to smudge your look even if you are on dry land.

Try these:

Glo Minerals Brow Collection

Tigi Cosmetics Eyes Love It Mascara

Lipstick: Yes, you’ve been told to always keep a red lippy on you at all times, but it’s for a reason. It’s the quickest, easiest, most effective way to glam up your look and is the symbol of classic beauty. You can’t go wrong with Mac’s Ruby Woo (£15.50). With its blue neon undertone, it’s got a really fun edge, which translates well to a holiday vibe. Also make sure to pack a nude lipstick so you can achieve different looks on alternate nights without having to bring a trunk full of colours. We recommend Tom Ford’s Sable Smoke (£37) for a sparkly, sheeny finish.

How to Get the Kardashian Glow for the Summer

From reality tv stars to beauty moguls, the Kardashians are known for their ultra glam makeup looks. Aside from their signature lashes, you’ll always find them sporting a highlight that looks like they’ve been bathed in a halo of light. Well, we’ve done our research and found the few key products you’ll need to create a fresh, luminous glow that would even impress the highlight and contour queen herself, Kim Kardashian West.

First things first, you’ll need to prep the skin with an ultra-hydrating moisturizer. Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream ($35.99) helps lock in moisture since it’s formulated with 30 percent hyaluronic acid, which keeps skin supple and plump for 72 hours. You can choose to wear a primer on top or skip it completely like Kim does.

When it comes to foundation, use one that gives a radiant finish like Glo Skin Beauty’s Luminous Liquid Foundation ($47.99). This lightweight mineral foundation is infused with both diamond powder and green tea extract to make it look like you’re glowing from within. Apply some of the foundation on your neck as well so there’s no harsh line. Dab the product into the skin with a KKW-approved BeautyBlender ($15.99) sponge that’s been dampened for the most flawless streak-free finish.

Complete the base by applying Jane Iredale’s Active Light Under Eye Concealer ($24.99) under your eyes, on the bridge of your nose and the cupid’s bow to brighten up your face. The concealer also works as a highlighter so it creates a soft-focused effect that will amp up the glow.

Lightly dust Karin Herzog’s Egyptian Earth Finishing Powder ($35.99) over the t-zone to set the base. The powder evens and illuminates the skin, providing it with a long-lasting radiant finish. Now time to bake in true Kardashian fashion with BareMinerals Barepro Contour Face Shaping Trio ($30.99). Apply the lightest color in the areas you want to be highlighted—so under the eyes and on the middle of the nose, chin, and forehead. Let it sit on your face for a few minutes, then dust it off. Use the medium color to bronze the skin and the darkest color to contour.

Once you’re done, bring some color back into your face with
Jane Iredale’s In Touch Cream Blush ($17.99). Use your fingers to apply the product onto your cheek and then blend it in with the BeautyBlender. The creamy formula blends effortlessly into your skin—not to mention it also smells like chocolate.

Then glide BareMinerals Highlighter Stick ($18.99) on the highest part of your cheekbones. This oil-free highlighter is infused with Mineral Moonbeam Essence that mimics how light reflects off crystals, which gives your cheeks an ethereal, multidimensional look. Feel free to also dab some on your cupid’s bow and tip of the nose if you love the shine. To make your eyes look bigger and brighter, apply Jane Iredale’s Eye Highlighter Pencil ($11.99) along the inner corner, waterline, and brow bone. And voilà, you’re ready to keep up with the Kardashians all summer long.

How to Get a No-Makeup Makeup Look For Summer

Less is definitely more when it comes to creating a no-makeup makeup look. That being said, you’ll still need certain products to achieve it. We’ve found the best seven beauty products that will get you a fresh face for summer that will endure even in the hottest of climates. Versatile and affordable, all of these products will become essentials in your beauty bag.

Concealer

Skip the foundation, and opt for a full coverage concealer instead. Dermablend’s Quick-Fix Concealer ($18.89) will give you all the coverage of a foundation without making it feel like you have a mask on. Use the stick concealer to cover everything from under-eye circles to blemishes to scars. Since it comes in a variety of yellow and pink tones, you’ll be able to pick your perfect match. With its smudge-proof SPF 30 formulation, this stick concealer will be your go-to during the summer.

Powder

If you can’t live without foundation, no worries! You can still use it—in powder form that is. Jane Iredale’s Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder ($34.89) offers sheer to medium coverage so you can either apply it as a setting powder for the concealer or build it up for that extra bit of coverage. The water-resistant SPF 20 product diffuses the appearance of fine lines and pores all while concealing redness. Great for those with sensitive skin types, including those with eczema, acne, and rosacea.

Eyeshadow

For the eyes and brows, all that’s needed is a good eyeshadow palette like Jane Iredale’s Eyeshadow Kit ($38.99) in Daytime. The kit provides five neutral colors that work well for all skin colors. For a subtle, but noticeable highlight, apply the lightest color in the inner corners of the eyes, brow bone, and cheek bone. Apply the medium shade in your socket and underneath the tip of your nose for dimension. Apply the remaining medium to dark colors to your brows.

Mascara

To make your eyes really pop, use YoungBlood’s Mink Lengthening Mascara ($19.99). This long-wearing mascara doesn’t flake or smudge so rest assured it will stay put in the blazing heat. For the best results, apply the mascara close to the base of the lashes, then wiggle upward for maximum volume and length. Make sure to separate each lash for the most natural look.

Blush & Bronzer

Get that flushed look with TIGI Cosmetics’ Glow Blush ($12.99). The highly pigmented product appears dark, but it goes on sheer so you can easily and seamlessly blend it into the skin for a rosy glow. Same goes for BareMinerals’ Invisible Powder Bronzer ($26.99)—the baked bronzer gives a naturally radiant finish that is both buildable and multidimensional.

Credit:sterlingminerals.com

Tinted Lip Balm

Finish it off with lips that look naturally stained with BareMinerals’ Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm ($13.99). Ingredients like vitamin E and passion fruit seed oil deeply hydrate the lips while leaving behind a beautiful color stain that lasts. Initially applied the product is sheer, but you can layer it to achieve a full coverage glossy pout.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide Celebrity Edition

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to begin the search for the perfect gift. We’ve narrowed it down to the seven most indulgent products that will make her feel like the queen that she is. All of these skincare products have been favorited by celebrity moms so rest assured your own mom will be receiving the star treatment this year.

Avene Thermal Spring Water

If your mom is into natural and organic skincare products, then Avene Thermal Spring Water ($16.99) is the way to go. Effective at calming itchy and red skin, this soothing mist excels in replenishing moisture back into the face. Gwyneth Paltrow, who loves holistic healing and detoxifying treatments, considers this water one of the best French beauty products in the market. She says it works as both a quick refresher on a hot day and helps set makeup.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Foaming Cleanser

Although Kelly Rutherford is almost 50 years old, her skin still looks flawless. Her secret? Peter Thomas Roth’s skincare products, which she’s been using since her twenties. Aside from applying sunscreen, she advises to invest in good skin products and wash your face nightly—advice handed down to her by her own mother. We recommend Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Foaming Cleanser ($18.99) because it’s great for all skin types. It’s effectively sweeps away dirt yet still nourishing as it supplies the skin with vitamins and aloe.

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant

When she’s not caring for her son or working on a project, January Jones loves to take moments for herself by doing treatments at home. In fact, she prefers to do those then get a facial done because she finds it therapeutic. The actress first uses Avene to cleanse her skin, then she follows up with Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant ($35.99) because “you look so shiny and new after you use it.” The two-in-one exfoliating mask really does help the skin look brand new because of the natural fruit enzymes that help stimulate cell renewal from within.

GlamGlow Gravity Mud Firming Treatment

Convenient and easy to use, GlamGlow Gravity Mud Firming Treatment ($55.99) is an amazing mask for sculpting the skin without any cosmetic procedures. The product gives the illusion of a face lift as it instantly firms and tightens the face. All your mom will have to do is watch as it turns from white to chrome and then peel it off. Used by Cat Deeley, among many other celebrities, this product will give your mom the Hollywood treatment.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic

Sienna Miller’s skincare regimen often consists of freezing ice masks “that make you feel as if your brain is going to fall out of the top of your head.” Fortunately, you can get your mom something even better that won’t leave her with a brain freeze: SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic ($160.99). When Sienna is not getting an intense facial massage, she maintains the glow at home everyday with this product. Fortified with vitamin C and ferulic acid, this powerhouse serum works to diminish the appearance of wrinkles while brighten the skin’s complexion.

Dr. Brandt Do Not Age Transforming Pearl Serum

Another excellent serum you can get your mom is Dr. Brandt’s Do Not Age Transforming Pearl Serum ($79.99). In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, Madonna said she loves how tight her face felt after applying more than she probably should. The award-winning serum fuels the skin with vital energy, helping restore the look of firmness for a more youthful appearance as the Queen of Pop knows all too well.

Jane Iredale Loose Mineral Powder

Original supermodel Cindy Crawford has always had to take care of her skin as part of her job. Now as a mom to a rising supermodel, she has shown her daughter all the best products. Jane Iredale Loose Mineral Powder ($34.89) makes the cut because Cindy feels “like you can’t mess it up” since it doesn’t streak and it’s really easy to use. We couldn’t agree more—your mom will love this product if she’s not into heavy makeup but likes an all-over even finish.

The Best Beauty Products Celebrities Love Under $30

While A-list celebrities tend to gravitate toward high-end makeup brands, there are actually a lot of stars out there who are hooked on inexpensive products. But don’t let the price fool you—they’re as high quality as it gets. From foundation to lipstick, we’ve found some of the most affordable makeup products in the market right now that come with a stamp of approval right from your favorite Hollywood actresses.

 Primer:

Celebrity makeup always begins with a flawless base; namely, Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer ($30.99). Vanessa Hudgens wore this primer to the MTV Video Music Awards back in August, showcasing seemingly perfect skin. No surprise though, as this two-in-one product gives you a glowing complexion while blurring out all of your pores like a selfie filter.

Foundation:

It’s hard to believe that Jennifer Aniston is almost 50 years old with skin that amazing, but one of her secret weapons is Youngblood Liquid Foundation ($26.99). “I like how lightweight it is and it blends well,” she told The Cut, adding that she could also build up more coverage if needed. Infused with ocean minerals, green tea extract, and more, this fragrance-free product does as much good to your skin from within as it does on the outside.

Concealer:

For touching up any spots, Gal Gadot’s makeup artist revealed to HELLO! that she loves using bareMinerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer ($16.99) on her. In fact, she said it’s “one of her favorite products of all time.” If it’s good enough for Wonder Woman, it’s good enough for us mortals! The silky smooth formula is guaranteed to cover up both your under eye circles and discolorations while not being heavy on the skin.

Powder:

You may know Jennifer Lopez for that signature “J. Lo Glow,” but even she turns to powder to set her makeup. Used by her and Kirsten Dunst, Glo Minerals Pressed Base ($26.99) gives the skin an all-over even finish. You can use it either as a skin-colored setting powder or as a replacement for foundation if you’re not a fan of liquid formulas.

Eyeliner:

Emma Watson is all about eco-friendly and ethical beauty products, which is why she turns to Jane Iredale Liquid Eye Liner ($15.99) in Brown. She told The Gloss that it took her six months to find a good, natural eyeliner, but that this one’s it—and we agree. The latex-free eyeliner is gentle and nourishing on the skin thanks to essential oils like rosemary leaf and radish root extracts.

Lipstick:

To finish off any makeup look, a nude lip color is essential. Youngblood Lipstick ($12.99) is a great option as it’s a super pigmented lipstick formulated with natural oils and minerals. In fact, celebrity makeup artist Monika Blunder told Glamour she applied the lipstick in Brown Sugar on Jessica Alba for a gala to accentuate the natural fullness of her lips. It also comes in 24 other colors so you can pick the perfect shade for your skin.

Which Moisturizer To Get Based On Your Skin Type

Unless a skincare professional has explicitly told you what skin type you have, it’s pretty hard to discern for yourself. Sometimes, it feels like your skin is super greasy, but then you have those days where everything seems normal. Although a few factors can come into play like the environment and your age, most skin types fall into one of five categories: oily, dry, combination, sensitive, or normal. We’ll explain each category so that you can take the trial and error out of skincare and choose the best moisturizer for your specific skin type.

Credit to FashionIconLady.com

Oily Skin

Indicators: Large pores, an all-over greasy sheen, and the need to use blotting sheets several times throughout the day.

Solution: Avoid heavy creams—instead, go for Avene Mattifying Fluid ($22.99), a lightweight soap-free lotion that will regulate excess oils but still keep your skin hydrated. While you might feel tempted to skip moisturizer altogether, your skin will actually become oilier if you try to dry your skin out. Fortunately, this moisturizer is water-based so it will completely absorb into your skin in just a few minutes.

Dry Skin

Indicators: Itchy, flaky, and/or red skin that feels uncomfortably tight after cleansing.

Solution: First, stop using hot water to cleanse as it strips your skin of natural oils. Stick to lukewarm water, instead. Second, quench your skin’s thirst with an ultra-hydrating moisturizer like Obagi CLENZIderm MD Therapeutic Moisturizer ($26.99). This moisturizer replenishes chapped skin with two potent ingredients: Allantoin, a plant-derived compound that heals skin by stimulating cell regeneration, and glycerin, which hydrates the skin by drawing water into your skin’s outer layer from the air.

Credit to Glossier.com

Combination Skin

Indicators: Your cheeks are dry but you have an oily t-zone (that’s your forehead, nose, and chin).

Solution: Combination skin is probably the trickiest of all the skin types, which is why you’ll need a two-in-one product. Your best bet is PCA Skin Clearskin ($31.89) since it balances moisture levels and helps soothe acne-prone skin at the same time. You won’t have to worry about clogged pores or an oily residue thanks to the fast-absorbing formula.

Sensitive Skin

Indicators: Your face turns red with light pressure and the majority of the products you’ve put on your skin causes redness and stinging as well.

Solution: Get your skin to react positively with Dermalogica Barrier Repair ($35.99). This silicone-based moisturizer soothes sensitive skin by protecting it from free radicals and inflammation. Free of any artificial colors and fragrances, the vitamin-packed waterless formula will give your skin all the hydration it needs without any irritation.

Normal Skin

Indicators: An even skin tone with no sheen or flaking (AKA, the goal of every skincare regimen).

Solution: Celebrate! Oh, and keep up that skin by moisturizing, of course. Peter Thomas Roth Ultra Lite Oil-Free Moisturizer ($23.79) is ideal for normal skin types as it provides antioxidant protection with vitamins A and E. The lightweight gel formula also contains allantoin—which as you’ve already read—works wonders for promoting healthy skin.

How To Pamper Yourself for Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there’s no better time to give yourself some much-needed TLC. Regardless if you’re in a relationship or not, we could all use a designated day—or maybe a week—to kick back and relax. Aside from treating yourself to a box of chocolates, there are plenty of small things you can do to celebrate the holiday of love this year that is way more satisfying than watching a cheesy rom com.

Take a bath

After a long day at work, there’s nothing quite as relaxing as a warm bath to soak your stress away. Not only does submerging yourself in water help you sleep better, but also it helps loosen any tight muscles, especially if you toss in Mama Mio Liquid Yoga Restorative Bath Soak ($32.99). As the name indicates, this soak eases your body like yoga would by using a blend of calming essential oils like lavender and citrus lemon peel. To create an even dreamier ambience, light a soothing candle like NEST Fragrances Classic Candle in Vanilla Orchid & Almond ($38.99). We warn you though—you may never want to leave your bathtub.

Do yoga outside

If you don’t have time for a bath, we recommend a quick outdoor yoga session in the morning. Practicing yoga is great for your overall health as it clears your mind and gets you ready for the day. Not sure how to do it? No worries—there are a gazillion videos on YouTube to help you out. Just make sure to set your mat on a shaded spot either in your backyard or a nearby park. Don’t forget to also bring a good SPF. Image Skincare Prevention+Daily Ultimate Protection Moisturizer SPF 50 ($27.89) works wonders as it offers both UVA and UVB protection, ensuring that your face is covered from the elements. Always namaste away from sun damage!

Get your glow on

We’re told to drink about half a gallon of water each day, but let’s be realistic: That goal can be pretty hard to reach most of the time. Fortunately, you can achieve hydrated skin while you sleep by quenching it with GLAMGLOW ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment ($50.99). A single use of this mask is all it takes to give your skin an instant boost and make it look like you’re glowing from within. Apply it the night before Valentine’s Day to ensure silky, smooth skin that will enhance any date makeup look.

Put your best face on
Skip the spa—you can give yourself an at-home mini facial by using Peter Thomas Roth Facial On The Go ($18.99). This set allows you to recreate the professional experience in the comfort of your room with just four gel products. Before getting started though, take a hot shower to open up the pores for maximum effectiveness. Ingredients such as glycolic acid will brighten your skin while hyaluronic acid and botanical extracts gives your skin the moisture it needs. Our personal favorite is the peeling gel, which visibly rolls away dead skin cells. Great for normal skin types, it’s an easy way to bring life back into your skin without putting a dent in your wallet.

Valentine’s Day: The Dos and Don’ts of Gifting Skincare Products

When it comes to gifting your beloved on Valentine’s Day, you consider yourself something of an expert—until it comes to surprising your special someone with skincare products. Giving someone the gift of a healthier complexion is definitely a tricky proposition. But there are great ways to give your number one a skin-focused gift all in the name of showing just how much you care. Here’s what to do, what to give—and oh, yes…what not to do!

All images courtesy Glamour.com

For Dry Skin

Don’t…bore them with a bunch of rules that they need to follow, like avoiding hot showers and drinking more water. They already know, trust us.

Do…give them the best of the best. No one will be offended when you present them with a hyper-moisturizing product that drenches their skin with the hydration they need. Try a top-of-the-line treatment that they might not consider on their own, such as Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream ($36.59). It’s formulated to keep skin soft for up to three full days, which means it’s a miracle worker for anyone with a dehydrated complexion.

For Tired Ski

Don’t…comment on their tired eyes or pale skin. And by all means, don’t tell them to smile!

Do…be the hero that provides them with the change they need to see an improvement. When you gift them with a cult favorite that everyone loves, they’ll be thrilled. We’re partial to GLAMGLOW FlashMud Brightening Treatment ($47.93), a powerhouse mask that instant rejuvenates lackluster skin while leaving it softer. With regular use, skin appears more even and dark spots fade.

For Acne

Don’t…worry too much about giving a skin care gift to someone with acne. They know they have it—and they’ll highly appreciate something that works.

Do…try something that’s not in their usual line of vision. You won’t find iS clinical Acne Travel Kit ($98.99) at a drugstore or mass market retailer. Tucked inside a sleek travel bag, your recipient will find generous deluxe sizes of a cleanser, an SPF 50 moisturizer, and two potent serums. Used together, they’ll heal existing blemishes and help prevent new breakouts from forming.

For Sensitivity

Don’t…try to explain the gift as a solution to their “problem.” Skin care is tricky to give, but if you know the sensitive-skinned person well enough, you’ll be fine.

Do…put some thought into it. A product for sensitive skin needs to be formulated specifically with ingredients that nurture and soothe. Avoid heavy fragrances and additives that might cause irritation. Look for key words that suggest something gentle, like Glo Skin Beauty Healing Gel ($25.99). It’s an exceptional choice for anyone with skin that’s easily disturbed—and “healing” is a joy for anyone with deep sensitivity.

For Anyone

Don’t…try to figure out their skin problems and choose a random product that they may never use.

Do…focus on luxury instead. When you’re shopping for someone you don’t know quite so well or who is somewhat picky, it’s best to stick with a classy gift like the DermOrganic Skin Care Sampler ($8.89). Made with certified organic ingredients, the products are fragrance-free, cruelty-free, and infused with argan oil. Simple and skin-loving, this set contains a facial lotion, a facial cleanser, and a hand and body lotion.

Why You Need Some Acid in Your Life

Your skin care routine may be on point, but you can elevate it even more by adding acid to the mix. Although you might worry about the possibility of irritation, the newest breed of acid-based skin products are designed to treat your skin without causing discomfort. Here’s what you need to know—and what to try.

It Combats Aging

If your goal is to stave off the early signs of aging, it’s important to get a head start with a product that is specifically designed to target those fine lines and wrinkles. Look for something injected with hyaluronic acid, a potent ingredient that rebalances your body’s collagen levels as those naturally decline with age. The acid helps boost your ability to synthesize collagen and moisturizes your skin at the same time. It’s a double whammy that spells serious success for tired looking, aging skin.

Karin Herzog E&R Anti-Aging Corrector Serum ($89.99) not only looks gorgeous in its gold-encased bottle, but also provides your skin with a hyper-concentrated infusion of hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and vitamin B3. A touch of chamomile soothes while the concoction penetrates deeply to reveal smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.

It Brightens Skin

A sallow complexion is easy to revive with some makeup, but if you want to get to the root of the matter you need to focus on your skin care products. Glycolic acid is a natural exfoliating agent that sloughs away dead skin cells on the surface layer of your skin. The result is fresh, healthy, vibrant skin that also appears to youthfully glow, thanks to the acid’s ability to stimulate the production of both collagen and elastin.

And since you likely hydrate your skin every day anyway, it’s worth switching to Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Glow Moisture ($42), a deeply moisturizing lotion that contains both glycolic and lactic acids. The combination works to improve the cell renewal process while smoothing rough spots. It also contains vitamin D and microencapsulated DHA, which lend your skin a golden glow over time.

It Heals Damage

Glycolic acid does more than just exfoliate—it also has the potential to heal skin abnormalities without causing irritation. The key is in its size. Glycolic is the smallest possible type of hydroxy acid, which means it’s easy to add to virtually all types of skin care formulations. As it penetrates the skin’s outermost layer, it works to eliminate issues such as dryness, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars.

If you’re concerned about the prevalence of these issues, a product like Glo Therapeutics 10% Glycolic Cleanser ($40.99) works wonders. In addition to the acid, it also has anti-inflammatory aloe vera, soothing Canadian willowherb extract, and green tea leaf extract, a potent antioxidant that combats the harmful effects of free radicals

Skincare 101: Why You Need to Add Collagen to Your Routine

of collagen as the glue that keeps your skin strong and elastic. As we age, our natural collagen production slows, which results in those pesky fine lines and wrinkles that are so stubborn and often difficult to control. Lack of collagen can also cause skin to sag, which is another key sign of aging. You may also experience a reduction of this vital protein if you smoke, ingest lots of sugar, or spend excessive time in the sun.

The good news is that you can still revitalize your skin by increasing its exposure to products that are infused with collagen. At TheBeautyPlace.com, we’re big believers in the power of collagen and its ability to transform your skin. Here are our favorite products, all formulated to give aging skin the necessary boost it needs to achieve a more youthful, fresher complexion.
